Both South Dakota (Missouri Valley Conference) and Drake (Pioneer) are Football Championship Series members. It is the first meeting between Bowling Green and USD.

● The Coyotes no-huddle, up-tempo offense created 19 touchdown drives of less than two minutes last year. Six of USD’s touchdown drives against Drake were less than two minutes.
● Head coach Bob Nielson is a two-time national champion and three-time national coach of the year.
● South Dakota’s offense scored touchdowns on seven of its eight first half possessions while building a 56-7 halftime lead.
● Senior quarterback Chris Steveler was the Valley Newcomer of the year in 2016, when he accounted for 31 or 41 South Dakota touchdowns on the campaign.

● BGSU forced three Spartan turnovers, but Michigan State more than doubled Bowling Green in total yards (465-212) and had a whopping 16:02 advantage in time of possession to make it a long day for the Orange and Brown.
● Sophomore Cameron Jefferies and redshirt senior Nate Locke combined for 25 tackles (10 solo) to lead the Falcons defense against MSU.
● R-SO quarterback James Morgan completed just 10 of 31 passes for 146 yards and one pick in the opener.

● Bowling Green managed just 67 yards rushing, averaging 2.8 ypc with a long of 15 yards. Andrew Clair (4 carries, 22 yards) and Matt Domer (4 carries, 21 yards) led the way.
