Red Raiders Red Hot; eliminate Akron in NCAA play
TAMPA, FL -- Amani Lyles and Shammah Scott combined for 46 points, but Texas Tech (23-10, 12-6 Big 12) put five players in double figures enroute to a 91-71 win over Akron (29-6, 17-1 MAC) in NCAA first round action at Benchmark International Arena.
Jaylen Petty led the way for TTU, which connected on 64.2 (34 of 53) percent from the field overall, including 55 percent (11 of 20) from beyond the arc.
The Red Raiders were particularly effective in the second half as they extended modest 40-35 intermission advantage. Texas Tech hit 70 percent (19 of 27) from the field during the final 20 minutes.
