Two teams that have show some resilience will battle for a third victory Saturday when Miami's RedHawks visit Akron at InfoCision Stadium..
The Zips are 2-4 (1-1 MAC) after bouncing back from a 45-3 loss to Toledo to defeat Central Michigan 28-22 last Saturday. Miami, meanwhile, is 2-3 (1-0 MAC) after rallying to beat Northern Illinois 25-14 last week in DeKalb. It was the second straight "W" for MU after opening the season with three losses.

After enjoying a bye last week, Bowling Green hosts rival Toledo at Doyt L Perry Stadium Saturday.
The Rockets bounced back from their loss to Western Michigan Sept. 20 with a dominating performance against Akron last week.
This will be the 90th meeting between Toledo and Bowling Green, whose campuses are separated by a mere 25 miles, much of it along I-75. The first meeting on the gridiron between the two schools occurred in 1919. Toledo leads the series with BGSU, 43-42-4 and has won 12 of the last 15 meetings, including six of the last seven at BGSU.
• • • • • BOWLING GREEN brings a 2-3 (0-1 MAC) record into this week's matchup. The Falcons have lost two straight after defeating Liberty Sept. 13. • BGSU is 2-0 at home and 0-3 on the road.
• The Falcons fell at Ohio 35-20 in their last outing. It was a game marked by turnovers, with BGSU commiting four while forcing three Ohio turnovers.
• Ohio out-gained Bowling Green 439-350 overall.
• BGSU QB Drew Pyne completed 19 of 29 for 170 yards with one TD and three picks. Nine different Falcons caught passes. Finn Hogan led the way with three receptions for 51 yards.
• Chris McMillian led the ground game with 11 carries for 89 yards and a score.
• JoJo Johnson recorded an interception. The Falcons defense had two sacks.
• Ohio sacked Falcon QBs five times and recorded nine TFL.
• • • • • TOLEDO dominated Akron last week, out-gaining the Zips 545-137 overall.
• The Rockets ground game churned out 252 yards with three scores. Chip Trayanum led the charge with 11 carries for 75 yards.
• Tucker Gleason completed 16 of 19 pass attempts, good for 237 yards and three TDs.
• Junior Vandeross III led Rocket receivers with nine catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns.
• Toledo ranks first in the MAC in scoring offense (35.8), scoring defense (12.4), total offense (442.4), total defense (223.8), rushing offense (212.4), rushing defense (92.0), pass defense (131.8), defense pass efficiency (94.82), fumbles recovered (6) and turnover margin (+0.80).
• Toledo's defense ranks sixth in the FBS in total defense (223.8) and in passing yards allowed (131.8), and fifth in defensive passing efficiency (94.82).
A pair of one-win teams seek their second victory of 2025 when they meet at Rynearson Stadium.
The Huskies are hungry, with their only win coming in Week 1 against Holy Cross. EMU's only win was Sept. 20 against Louisiana, but the Eagles came oh-so-close while falling to Buffalo last Saturday.
• • • • • EASTERN MICHIGAN and UB traded touchdown for touchdown and field goal for field goal all day. That left the two teams tied 24-all at the end of regulation. Buffalo scored a touchdown and PAT to open overtime. The Eagles again matched the TD, but failed to convert a two-point PAT try.
• Victor Snow recorded three TDs for the Bulls -- two receiving and one running the ball.
• EMU ranks fourth among MAC teams in scoring offense (25.0 ppg) and is 11th in scoring defense (35.7 ppg).
• The Eagles are sixth (MAC) in rushing (154.8 ypg) in rushing, but 13th/last in run defense (251.5 ypg).
• EMU is second in pass offense (222.7 ppg). QB Noah Kim is first in completions and attempts. His 63.1 percent completion percentage ranks third.
• • • • • NORTHERN ILLINOIS started fast last week, going up 14-0 on Miami in the first quarter. However, MU held NIU to zero points and 84 yards the rest of the way.
• Freshman Brady Davidson got the start against Miami and fared well early. He finished with 13 completions in 28 attempts, good for 106 yards with one TD and one INT.
• Northern Illinois totaled 114 yards on the ground. Lazaro Rogers led the way with 98 yards on nine carries. That included a 76-yard TD burst on NIU's first offensive play.
• A third quarter block by Miami resulted in a two-point safety and set up a subsequent RedHawks touchdown.
• The Huskies rank 12th among MAC teams in scoring. They are third in scoring defense (21.2 ppg).
• NIU is last in passing offense (90.5 ypg) and second in pass defense (119 ypg).
After two straight weeks facing top 10 teams, not to mention a Week 2 matchup against No. 24 Texas Tech, Kent State gets a much more "level" matchup this week. The one-win Flashes (1-4, 0-1 MAC) host winless UMass (0-5, 0-1 MAC) Saturday at Dix Stadium.
• • • • • MASSACHUSETTS has scored 10 or fewer points in four of five outings this year. The sole exception was a 27-26 loss to Bryant in Week 2.
• The Minutemen are coming off a 21-3 loss to Western Michigan last Saturday. Umass hit an early field goal, but WMU scored single TDs in each of the final three quarters.
• UMass registered 260 yards of total offense, including just 57 rushing.
• UMass used two quarterbacks. Freshman AJ Hairson completed 11 of 18 for 131 yards with one interception. Junior Brandon Rose connected on 9 of 17, good for 72 yards.
• The Minutemen rank last among MAC teams in scoring (11.0 ppg) and are 12th (of 13) in scoring defense (35.8 ppg).
• UMass ranks last in rushing (61.2 ypg) and is eighth in passing (171.4 ppg).
• The Minutemen have allowed 15 sacks. Only one team -- Kent State -- has allowed more (16).
• UMass has recorded eight sacks and three interceptions.
• Joe Harasymiak is in his first year as head coach of the Minutemen. Most recently, he was defensive coordinator at Rutgers.
• • • • • KENT STATE is in its third year under Head Coach Kenni Burns. Before that, he was an assistant coach and running back coach on the staff of PJ Fleck at Minnesota.
The Flashes were 1-11 in 2023 and 0-12 last year. Since opening with a 21-17 win over Merrimack, KSU is 0-4. However, three of the teams were ranked in the Top 25.
• Kent State fell at No. 5 Oklahoma (44-0) last week. The Sooners led 10-0 after one period, 23-0 at intermission and 44-0 after three quarters. Neither team scored in the final stanza.
• Junior Devin Kargman (8/16, 74 yards, 1 INT) and freshman Deante Ruffin (2/3, 44 yards) handled QB duties against OU.
• The Flashes were held to 17 yards rushing on 33 attempts (0.5 ypc).
• Kent State ranks 12th of 13 MAC teams in rushing(72.6 ypg).
• The Flashes are fifth in passing offense (186.8 ypg).
Although conference play is still in its early stages, only four MAC teams do not have a conference loss. Two of those will meet Saturday when Ball State (2-3, 1-0 MAC) visits Western Michigan (3-3, 2-0 MAC).
The Broncos have won their last three -- a streak that started with WMU's 14-13 upset of Toledo two weeks ago. Ball State, meanwhile, pulled off its own upset last Saturday when the Cardinals knocked off Ohio 20-14.
• • • • • WESTERN MICHIGAN is coming off a 21-3 win over winless UMass last week. The Minutemen scored first, but WMU tallied single touchdowns in each of the final three periods.
• Sophomore QB Broc Lowry completed 18 of 25 passes for 163 yards and a TD. He also led Bronco rushing with 15 carries totaling 92 yards with a score.
• Jalen Buckley ran 12 times for 60 yards, helping WMU produce 219 yards and two TDs with the ground game.
• Ten different Broncos recorded at least one catch. None had more than three receptions. •
• Talique Williams (15 catches, 226 yards) leads WMU receivers on the year. Baylin Brooks is right behind with 13 receptions totaling 187 yards.
• Ten of WMU's 13 touchdowns have been on runs.
• The Broncos are eighth among MAC teams in scoring (19.7 ppg) but second in scoring defense (20.2 ppg).
• Kicker Palmer Domschke has connected on six of eight field goals with a long of 49.
• Nadame Tucker ranks second among MAC defenders in sacks (4) and first in TFL (9.0).
• • • • • BALL STATE has won two of its last three games. After defeating New Hampshire 34-29, the Cardinals fell at UConn 31-25. However, they bounced back in a big way last week with a 20-14 win over Ohio in Muncie.
• Ohio led 14-0 at intermission. Ball State then scored the game's final 20 points with two touchdowns, a field goal and a safety.
• Senior QB Kiael Kelly completed 17 of 33 passes totaling 185 yards with one TD. He also ran for a team-high 96 yards (1 TD) on 21 carries.
• Nine Cardinals caught passes. Qian Magwood led the way with four receptions for 92 yards and a 43-yard touchdown.
• Junior Qua Ashley (5-10, 191) leads BSU rushing on the year. He has logged 64 carries totaling 316 yards (4.9 ypc) and scored three rushing TDs.
• The Cardinals recorded four sacks and six TFL against Ohio.
• Kicker Carson Holmer has hit three of five FG tries this year, including a long of 23.
• BSU ranks seventh among MAC teams in rushing (153.8 ypg). The Cardinals are 10th in passing (135.2 ypg).
