Ohio holds off late Falcons rally

ATHENS, OH -- The Ohio Bobcats led 20-7 at intermission and withstood a Bowling Green comeback bid to post a 30-24 victory Saturday at Peden Stadium.
Ohio was aided by four Falcon turnovers in game where the two teams combined to draw 16 flags for 179 yards. Bowling Green had seven penalties for 71, while OU was hit with nine penalties for 108 yards.
Freshman QB James Morgan . . . 

. . . completed 22 of 38 passes for 253 yards and two TDs, but hed also Ohio also picked off three passes.

Greg Windham completed 20 of 27 for the Bobcats. He threw one TD and one interception. 
Ohio (4-2, 2-0 MAC) also managed 183 yards rushing while getting three TDs from the ground game. Sophomore Maleek Irons provided two of thoese scores and 64 rushing yards. Senior Bo Hardy carried 16 timees for a game high 83 yards. Windham chipped in with nine carries for 43 yards and a score. 

Fred Coppet (19/66 yards, 1 TD) and Josh Cleveland (7/65 yards) paced the Bowling Green (1-5, 0-2 MAC) ground game.

Ronnie Moore (3 catches, 76 yards), Scott Miller (6 catches, 56 yards 1 TD) and Teo Redding (6 catches, 54 yards, 1 TD) were the Falcons leading receivers.

Senior Sebastian Smith turned five receptions into 72 yards and a touchdown for Ohio. Jordan Reid and tight end Troy Mangen combined for eight catches and 95 yards.

Louie Zervos put Ohio in front early with the only score of the first quarter -- a 45-yard field goal.

Irons went in on 17-yard TD jaunt early in the second period, but Coppet quickly answered on an 8-yard run 

Ohio took advantage of another interception to add its second touchdown of the day two plays later. Windham hit Smith for 15 yards on the score.

After a Falcon punt, Ohio moved 70 yards in eight plays for squeeze in another Irons TD run with 37 seconds left before intermission.

The visiting Falcons made it a 23-10 game when Jake Suder hit a 19-yard field goal midway through the third stanza. 

Ohio appeared to be pulling away with Windham's touchdown, making it 30-10 in favor of the hosts with 4:08 left in the period. However, Bowling Green tallied twice more -- once on a 13-yard reception by Redding (1:07, 3rd) and again on a 37-yard Miller catch at 1:24 of the final period.

Ohio secured an onside try and ran out the clock to preserve its homecoming win.

Bowling Green is at rival Toledo Saturday, while Ohio hosts Easter Michigan .
