The NFL draft is now history. This one, of course, was different than any before it -- and hopefully different than what we may see in the future!
Just a few months ago, fans were anticipating an over-the-top presentation that would fit the host site (Las Vegas) image, with thousands of people jammed in front of the main stage to watch it all. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, of course, we ended up with a “virtual” presentation format.
Draft-wise, it was . . .
As soon as the draft ended, NFL teams raced to sign a host of undrafted free agents. It’s an important process on a number of levels. For the players, it’s an opportunity. If they can get their foot in the door, who knows after that. For NFL teams, it’s a short team chance to enhance training camp numbers and, again, who knows after that. ESPN’s Adam Schefter once noted, there are more undrafted free agents in the Pro Footbal Hall of Fame than No. 1 picks. Former Kent State player James Harrison is one such example.
The signings will continue for a few days, but MAC players swooped up in the key first wave include:
Reggie Gilliam, RB, Toledo (Buffalo Bulls)
Doug Costin, DT, Miami (Jacksonville Jaguars)
Austin Pleasants, OL, Ohio (Jacksonville Jaguars)
Kevin McGill, CB, Eastern Michigan (Los Angeles Chargers)
Luke Juriga, C, Western Michigan (Philadelphia Eagles)
