PREVIEW: Ball State at Florida Atlantic

After blasting Eastern Kentucky 41-14 last week, Ball State has a chance to end non-conference play at 3-1 if it can get past Florida Atlantic (1-2) at Boca Raton Saturday night. It is the first meeting between the two programs.

The only blemish for the Cardinals thus far is a 30-20 loss to Indiana in Week Two. BSU will be facing an Owls team that opened with a 38-30 win over Southern Illinois before falling to No. 25 Miami (38-10) and Kansas State (63-7).
FLORIDA ATLANTIC OWLS (1-2, 0-0 C-USA EAST)
► Sophomore quarterback Jason Driskel (6-2, 210) has completed 60.4 percent (55/91) of his passes for 575 yards with two TDs and three interceptions. He has been sacked 11 times.
► Driskal’s best performance this year was in the win over Southern Illinois, when he completed 23 of 31 for 282 yards with two TDs. He was 14 of 24 for 125 yards and two interceptions last week at Kansas State.
► Junior Gregory Howell Jr. (6-1, 215) is the Owls leading rusher. He is averaging 4.9 ypc with 48 trips for 237 yards and four TDs.
► Junior wideout Kalib Woods leads the receiving corps with 19 receptions for 263 yards.
► The Owls have five rushing touchdowns and two through the air.
► Junior Greg Joseph is perfect on the season, having converted all seven extra points and two field goals  wit a long of 40 yards.
► Sophomore safety Jalen Yoiung leads FAU tacklers with 25 stops. DL Haidenn Nagel has 12 tackles, 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sacks. LB Nate Ozdemir chips  in 11 hits and one interception.
 
BALL STATE CARDINALS  (2-1, 0-0 MAC)
► Ball State rolled  out to a 41-0 lead against Eastern Kentucky before the Colonels scored  twice in the last 3:29.
► Quarterback Ryan Neal completed 28 of 39 last week for 238 yards and two scores. He has connected on 59.2 percent of his passes on the year, with three TDs and three  picks.
► KeVonn Mabon owns 17 receptions for 204 yards to lead BSU receivers. Jordan Hogue has 10 catches for 97 yards and a TD. BSU has three passing TDs, each going to a different receiver.
► Sophomore James GilBert (5-8, 194) had his best day in the opener, picking up 160 yards with two TDs on 29 carries. He has 281 yards and three scores on the campaign. Darian Green has 137 yards and a TD in 28 trips.Green and Gilbert are both closing in on 1,000 career rushing yards.
► Kicker Morgan Hagee has been good on all 11 extra points and five of six field goals with a long of 44 yards.
► Ball State has recorded 14 sacks through its first three  games, including eight last week. That was the most  in at least 10 years. BSU totaled 17 sacks during the entire 2015 campaign.
