The Colonels are 1-1, having opened with a 49-23 win over Morehead State before falling at Marshall 32-16 last week.
EASTERN KENTUCKY COLONELS (1-1)
➤➤ EKU leads the series with Bowling Green, but lost to the Falcons in their last meeting (2003).
➤➤ The Colonels and Herd combined for nine turnovers in last Saturday’s matchup. EKU committed five of the miscues while the host team coughed up four turnovers.
➤➤ Special teams had a big day as Eastern recovered two punts and a kickoff against Marshall. The Colonels also blocked one punt and one PAT.
➤➤ EKU is first in the OVC and fourth in FCS in turnovers forced (6).
➤➤ As it had the previous week at Miami, Marshall took an early lead. Isaiah Green tossed two of his three TD passes in the opening frame. MU outscored Eastern by just three points (19-16) the rest of the way.
➤➤ Marshall out-gained EKU 367-187 overall. The Colonels managed just 48 passing yards, but rushed 45 times for 139 yards. Eastern is first in the OVC and fourth eighth among FCS teams with 271.5 rushing yards per outing.
➤➤ L.J. Scott ran for his third touchdown of the year against MU.
➤➤ Redshirt freshman Dakota Allen has completed 14 of 24 passes (58.3%), good for 131 yards and one TD.
BOWLING GREEN FALCONS (0-2)
➤➤ The Falcons were out-gained by Maryland 565-158 in last week’s 45-14 Terrapin victory. Of the latter figure, 108 yards came on two first-half touchdown drives. That allowed the hosting Falcons to cake a 14-10 lead into the locker room after two quarters.
When play resumed, Maryland took control -- first with its defense and then with an explosive offense. In all, the Terrapins ran off five unanswered touchdowns while allowing zero points and zero second-half yards.
➤➤ Quarterback Jarret Doege completed 17 of 27 passes for 143 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
➤➤ Sophomore Andrew Clair carried 16 times for a total of 44 yards. Two other runners totaled 13 yards, while Doege was credited with minus-42 yards to leave BG with plus-15 rushing yards.
➤➤ Sophomore Quintin Morris and senior Deric Phouthavong led Falcon receivers with a combined nine receptions for 117 yards and a TD.
➤➤ Senior DE Brandon Harris registered a team-high 11 tackles.
