Blair announced today. A 24-year collegiate coaching veteran with a proven track record of success, Jacobs brings championship pedigree and a reputation for building elite programs at Mercer, Lenoir-Rhyne and Notre Dame College (Ohio). Candle, who took over as head coach at Toledo in 2016, reportedly agreed to a six-yar deal through 2031. He will be introduced at a press conference Monday (Dec. 8). Candle's Rockets finished 8-4 overall this year, and just missed a berth in the Mid-American Conference championship game due to tie-breaking criteria. He is the winningest coach in Toledo football history, registering 81 wins over 10 years. His UT teams captured MAC titles in 2017 and 2022. They also made seven bowl appearances. Before becoming head coach in December 2015, Candle spent six years as Toledo's offensive coordinator, helping build one of the nation's most productive offenses. All of the awards were voted on by the league's 13 head coaches. Seven Toledo players earned first team honors -- three on offense and four on defense. Western Michigan and Buffalo both landed four players on the first unit -- three apiece on the offensive side. MAC announces football special recognition awards Western Michigan defensive end Nadame Tucker was tabbed the winner of the 44th Vern Smith Leadership Award as the top player in the MAC as well as the Defensive Player of the Year. WMU's Lance Taylor was selected as the Head Coach of the Year, while Broncos quarterback Broc Lowry was tabbed as the Offensive Player of the Year. Kent State kick returner Da’Realyst Clark was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Year while Bowling Green running back/kick returner Cameron Pettaway earned Freshman of the Year honors, rounding out the specialty award selections. 2025 MAC Football Postseason Specialty Awards
