Late in the final scrimmage period, an interception by Jamal Parker gave the defense one final boost of exaltation on a day that was filled with energy on both sides of the ball.
Prior to taking the field, linebacker Matt Bahr (6) and defensive back Elvis Hines (8) were presented with the first two single-digit jersey numbers of the 2018 season.
"When we first got here, we took all of our single-digit numbers away," Lewis said. "We told our guys they would have to earn the right to wear those numbers. Through the course of what Matt and Elvis have done on and off the field, they are the golden standard of our program right now. We will continue to push others to join that standard."
Kent State opens its 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Illinois.
