ORLANDO, FL -- John Rhys Plumless threw for 281 yards with three touchdowns, while Johnny Richardson ran for 100 yards to lead Central Florida past Kent State 56-6 at FBC Mortgage Stadium.
Three different ballcarriers recorded at least 84 yards and the Knights rushed for 389 yards with five touchdowns on the evening. They averaged 8.5 ypc.
Michael Alaimo started at QB for Kent State, completing 12-of-31 attempts totaling 145 yards with one interception. The Flashes totaled 95 yards on the ground, averaging 2.6 ypc.
Andrew Glass accounted for all six KSU points, hitting two-of-three field goal attempts. Devin Nicholson led the defense with 13 tackles (11 solo). Nick Giacolone and D.J. Miller Jr. notched interceptions. Chrishon McCray averaged 16.7 yards per kick return.
KALAMAZOO, MI -- Freshman Jalen Buckley rushed for 194 yards to pace a 339-yard Bronco ground attack as Western Michigan defeated St. Francis (PA) 35-17 Saturday at Waldo Stadium.
The hosts held leads of 14-0 and 21-3 before St. Francis struck with a 77-yard pass play with 1:12 remaining before intermission. The Red Flash then closed the gap to four points with another TD at 9:43 of the third period.
Western Michigan's defense stiffened after that and the offense came up with two TDs. Jack Salopek hit Austin Hence on a nine-yarder late in the period. Buckley's 68-yard burst set up the game's final score, with Marshawn Kneeland taking it in from the one-yard line.
Four of WMU's five touchdowns came on the ground. Salopek threw for the other score while completing 18-of-26 passes for 170 yards. He was intercepted once.
Cole Doyle completed 14-of-24 passes (230 yards, 1 TD) for the Red Flash. Joe Toepfer led all defenders with 12 tackles.
