DeKALB, IL -The Hurricane (2-2) scored early -- and late -- overcoming a 14-9 NIU (1-3) third quarter lead to pull out a win at Huskie Stadium.
The visitors built up a 9-0 lead with a safety and touchdown and were up 9-7 after NIU scored on an Ethan Hampton 6-6ard pass To Trayvon Rudolph before halftime.
Another Huskie TD -- this one on a 29-yard Justin Lynch run - gave Northern Illinois a 14-9 lead with 5:34 remaining in the third period. However, Tulsa tallied the game's final 13 points.
Both teams committed three turnovers and were held to less than 300 total yards. Hampton and Rocky Lombardy combined to complete 17 of 29 passes totaling 128 yards with one TD and two interceptions (both by Hampton).
Justin Lynch and Antario Brown combined for 26 carries, 138 yards and one score as NIU totaled 167 yards on the ground.
TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo (3-1, 1-0 MAC) outscored Western Michigan (1-3, 0-1 MAC) 35-7 in the second half to overcome a 10-point deficit and post a 49-31 win in its first Mid-American Conference game of the season at the Glass Bowl on Saturday.
The Rockets uncharacteristically committed three first-half turnovers and found themselves trailing 24-14 heading into the break. The second half was a different story, as Toledo outgained WMU 295-142 and forced three turnovers to turn the tide and cruise to a double-digit victory.
Toledo (3-1, 1-0 MAC) put together its second-half comeback without starting quarterback Dequan Finn, who left the game early in the third quarter due to injury. In his place, sophomore QB Tucker Gleason led a high-powered offense that scored five second-half touchdowns.
Junior running back Peny Boone rushed for a career-high 211 yards and two scores, including 132 yards in the fourth quarter alone. Gleason completed 6-of-10 passes and threw for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Finn added 119 yards through the air and two scores before leaving the game. Senior wide receiver Jerjuan Newton caught four passes for 72 yards and a career-best three touchdowns, and redshirt freshman wide receiver Cooper Rusk caught a touchdown. Freshman running back Connor Walendzak scored his first-career collegiate touchdown as well.
Jalen Buckley led Western Michigan, carrying 29 times for 190 yards and two scores. The Broncos rushed 55 times for a total of 230 yards. Treyson Bourguet completed 12 of 22 passes, good for 160 yards and a pick.
MUNCIE, IN -- The visiting Eagles (3-1)outgained Ball State 530-197 on the way to a 40-3 victory.
BSU, which also had two turnovers, were held to a Jackson Courville 23-yard field goal with 7:15 to play. Most of the Eagles damage came through the air as GSU quarterbacks threw for 363 yards and four TDs. OJ Arnold (9 carries, 90 yards) led the rushing attack, which added another 167 yards.
Kadin Semonza completed 11 of 23 passes totaling 123 yards with two interceptions, while Kiael Kelly hit 3 of 6 for another 37 yards. Quian Magwood (3 catches, 47 yards) was the only Cardinal with more than two receptions.
The Cardinals, now 1-3, were held to just 37 yards on the ground.
BOWLING GREEN, OH -- The Bobcats (4-1, 1-0 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference play with their third consecutive win while Bowling Green dropped to 1-2 (0-1 MAC) with the loss.
Ohio's defense shined again, forcing four turnovers, registerring seven TFL and and limiting the Falcons to 211 yards of offense.
Offensively, QB Kurtis Rourke completed 14 of 16 passes, good for 196 yards and three scores.
He also ran four times totaling 33 yards. O'Shaan Allison carried 13 times for 42 yards as Ohio finished with 127 yards on the ground.
Jacoby Jones was the top Ohio receiver (4 catches, 85 yards). Walter Reynolds and Keye Thompson recorded interceptions.
Bowling Green QB Connor Bazelak completed 16 of 31 tosses for 109 yards with two interceptions. Odieu Hiliare pulled in five receptions totaling 45 yards.
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan (2-2) fell to the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks, 21-0, in its final regular-season non-conference matchup, Saturday, Sept. 23, on Burgess-Snow Field.
How it Happened
Despite a potent ground game, the Eagles were able to bend and not break. They held the hosts to three scores in the game while thwarting several others, including forcing the Gamecocks (3-1) to turn the ball over on downs inside the Eastern five-yard line in the third quarter.
The hosts scored one each in the first three quarters to build their lead, taking leads of 7-0 in the first, 14-0 at halftime, and 21-0 at the end of three. While the EMU offense was unable to score, the play of punter Mitchell Tomasek (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) helped the defense as he continually flipped the field, including booting a 72-yarder, the longest in the nation this year.

-- Jax State outgained EMU 388-152 overall and forced three Eastern Michigan turnovers.
-- The Eagles employed three quarterbacks in the game, with both junior Ike Udengwu III and sophomore Cam'Ron McCoy both making their EMU debuts on the gridiron. Udengwu finished the game compiling 42 passing yards off seven completed passes while McCoy, who pitched for the EMU baseball team last spring, saw his first football action, finishing with one rushing attempt.
-- Wide receiver J.B. Mitchell hauled in three receptions for 23 yards throughout the contest, marking a career-high in the Alabaster, Ala., native's, 'homecoming' to his home state.
-- Eastern Michigan had 57 yards rushing, although Jaylon Jackson totaled 76 or 17 carries. The Gamecocks recorded six sacks and 13 TFL.
MOBILE, AL -- Jase Bauer's 4-yard run with 13 seconds remaining was the difference as Central Michigan (2-2) came from behind to defeat South Alabama (2-2) 34-30 Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
The Chippewas held a 27-17 lead after Bauer hit Jesse Prewitt with a 70-yard TD pass at 14:47 of the final period. However, USA answered right back with a 73-yard pass play for one score and moved in front on a 1-yard run with 2:42 to play.
Bauer led CMU rushing (125 yards) with 15 carries for 55 yards and four TDs. He also completeed 19 of 30 pass attempts totaling 224 yards with one TD.
Kyle Moretti led Chippewas defenders with 11 tackles (4 solo).

OXFORD, OH -- Ten RedHawks registered carries as the Miami RedHawks rolled up 466 rushing yards on the way to a 62-20 win over Delaware State Saturday at Yager Stadium.
It was the first home game of the year for MU, which picked up a third non-conference win for the first time since 2003, when Ben Roethlisberger was finishing his RedHawk career.
Delaware State, an FCS level team and member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, fell to 0-4 on the season. However, the Hornets managed 351 yards of offense overall and played turnover-free football while battling MU. A 50-yard pass play from Marqui Adams to Wade Inge midway thorugh the first period tied the game at seven-all.
Miami responded with 24 straight points before Adams tossed his second TD pass of the contest. When MU kicker Graham Nicholson booted a 19-yard field goal as time ran out, the RedHawks took a 34-13 lead to the locker room.
Miami rolled up 336 first-half yards on 33 offensive plays and finished the game with 646 yards of offense; it was the first time Miami cracked 600 yards in total offense since 2017 (612 vs. Bowling Green).
After Keyon Mozee scampered to a 23-yard TD two plays into the second half, DSU scored its final touchdown -- one again on the arm of Adams and he hit Inge on a 10-yard toss at 12:18 to cap a four-play, 75 yard drive. Adams, a 6-1, 175-pound freshman, provided the vast majority of Delaware State's offense. As a passer, he completed 21 of 33 passes for 274 yards and three TDs. He also led Hornet rushers with 12 carries for 60 of the team's 77 rushing yards. Khyheem Waleed led DSU receivers with four catches for 125 yards, with a long of 73. Inge caught seven balls for a total of 67 yards and two TDs.
After Mozee's second rushing touchdown of the day, Miami owned a 48-20 lead with 9:58 left in the third period. The RedHawks rode their run game for most of the remaining time.
Five different RedHawk runners combined for six touchdowns, averaging 10.8 ypc along the way.
Quarterback Brett Gabbert, meanwhile, completed 15 of 20 passes, good for 180 yards with two TDs.
LAFAYETTE, LA -- Down 31-7 late in the third quarter, Buffalo (0-4) came up short with a late rally, and Louisiana (3-1) held on for a 45-38 win Saturday at Cajun Field.
Cole Snyder completed 17 of 343 passes totaling 198 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Cole Harrity had a team-high six catches (25 yards), while five other receivers had two catches each.
Mike Washington led the ground game with 13 carries for 88 yards. Ron Cook Jr. registered 11 trips for 48 yards and two TDs. Alex McNulty booted a 47-yard field goal.
Shaun Dolac (11 tackles, 5 solo) and Joe Andreessen (9 tackles, 5 solo) led the defense, while Charles McCartherens picked off two Cajun passes.
Defenses prevailed early, and Louisiana led 10-0 at halftime. Both teams scored three touchdowns in the third period. Two UL touchdowns, sandwiched around a Bulls field goal left the hosts with a 45-24 advantage at 7:40 of the final period. Buffalo tallied two TDs in the final 4:32 but could not catch the Cajuns.
BLOOMINGTON, IN -- Akron took Indiana to four overtimes before dropping a 29-27 decision Saturday night on the road inside Memorial Stadium.
Redshirt senior QB DJ Irons paced the Zips rushing attack by accumulating 141 yards and two touchdowns over the course of the game, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. Redshirt senior RB Lorenzo Lingard also added 113 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 8.1 yards per carry.
The most prolific target for Akron quarterbacks was junior WR Alex Adams, who caught five passes for 63 yards.
Junior LB Andrew Behm showed out for the Akron defense, collecting four tackles and one interception. Redshirt junior K Dante Jackson added one recovered fumble and redshirt sophomore DE Antonio Smith had 1.0 TFL and one sack in the loss.
The Zips forced two turnovers in Saturday's contest, with Akron turning those takeaways into three points. Akron had a stellar performance on the ground, totaling 263 rushing yards, while averaging 6.6 yards per carry and out-rushing Indiana by 171 yards.
Akron's defense held up against Indiana's offense, allowing 282 total yards.
Akron responded to an early 7-0 Indiana lead with a second quarter field goal to narrow the deficit to 7-3. The Zips then took the lead on a 14-yard rushing touchdown from Irons, making the score 10-7.
After Indiana scored to take a 17-10 lead, Akron responded with a touchdown to even the game at 17-17 on a 71-yard run by Lingard.
The Zips then kept the momentum going in the first overtime period with a 10-yard touchdown run from Irons to grab a 24-17 lead before the Hoosiers tied the game with a touchdown on their possession.
After Indiana scored to take a 27-24 lead in the second overtime, Akron responded with a score of its own, a 23-yard field goal from Jackson, to tie it up at 27-27. Akron didn't score again and Indiana added two more points to finish off the game in the fourth overtime.

FRESNO, CA -- Sophomore Mike Kenne threw for 325 yards and four touchdowns to lead undeated Fresno State (4-0) past Kent State (1-3) 53-10 Saturday at Bulldog Stadium.
The hosts outgained KSU 513-231 overall and owned a 29-11 advantage in first downs.
Junior QB Michael Alaimo completed 8 of 15 passes totaling 102 yards for the Flashes. Kent State also had 129 yards rushing. Xavier Williams (15 carries, 55 yards, 1 TD) and Gavin Garcia (13 carries, 50 yards) combined for 105 yards and a score.
After a pair of Bulldog TDs, Kent State cut the deficit to 15-7 with Williams' score at 5:48 of the first period. That, however, was KSU's only TD of the game. Andrew Glass hit a second quarter field goal from 46 yards for Kent State's only other points.
Fresno State led 36-10 by intermission and was up 50-10 before adding a fourth quarter field goal.
