Kelly/Shorts Stadium -- Mt. Pleasant, Mich
It was the Cardinals second win in the last three outings -- all against MAC competition.
Morgan Hagee’s 36-yard field goal with 47 seconds left provided the difference as Ball State outscored the hosts 17-3 in the final period.
Riley Neal completed 16 of 26 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown for BSU. James Gilbert ran 19 times for 72 yards, while Neal rushed 24 times for 55 yards and two scores to lead a rushing attack that totaled 157 yards. Sophomore linebacker Jaylin Thomas paced the defense with 19 tackles (9 solo).
Eastern Michigan (3-4, 1-3 MAC) took the other route for its win over Toledo (3-3, 1-1 MAC). The Eagles scored 21 first quarter points and were up 28-3 at intermission. However, EMU lost quarterback Mike Glass III to an injury after he completed 6 of 8 passes for 100 yards and ran 10 times for another 125 yards with two scores.
Toledo accounted for all the second half scoring, but came up two points short. Freddie McGee III was the man of the moment for EMU as he poked away a two-point conversion try following a Toledo touchdown with 20 seconds remaining.
