Johnson neared a double-double against the Titans, scoring a career-high 20 points and recording nine rebounds. The Chicago Ill., native went 8-of-13 from the field in a career-high 35 minutes played.
Wilder led the Broncos with 30 points, going 9-of-17 from the field and recording a career-high six threes'. Wilder also collected seven rebounds and six assists. It's the second time this season the senior guard has gone over 30 points, scoring 31 back on Nov.17 against Appalachian State.
The third Bronco to score in double figures was senior Drake LaMont with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. In a career-high 37 minutes played, LaMont registered two rebounds and two assists.
It's the first time the Broncos have had two score over 20 points since Thomas Wilder and Tucker Haymond did so against Central Michigan back on March 3, 2017. Wilder and Johnson against UDM, had 31 of the team's 51 second half points.
Western Michigan was a force on the defensive end as Detroit Mercy had 19 turnovers The Broncos capitalized off those turnovers scoring 29 points off turnovers.
In the second half alone, WMU outscored Detroit Mercy, 51-38 and shot a staggering 47.1 percent. Overall, WMU shot 45.5 percent (30-of-66) from the floor and had 11 three-pointers for the second straight contest.
Detroit Mercy held a 41-36 lead at the half thanks in large part to UDM's Corey Allen who had 13 of his game-high 32 points in the first. The game was tied at 12-12 after the first media timeout before the Titans went on a 12-3 run to lead by eight at the halfway point of the half.
WMU responded with a 7-2 run later on, with four of the seven points coming from junior Josh Davis to cut the UDM lead to three just before halftime. Detroit Mercy responded quickly with a 5-0 run to grab the five-point lead at halftime.
The Bronco offense exploded in the second half for 51 points and started off with eight straight points with back-to-back threes by Wilder. WMU regained the lead midway through the second half after embarking on a 7-0 run and ultimately ended up going on a 15-5 run to lead, 61-52.
UDM got to within two points of the Western lead with six minutes remaining but the Broncos scored 15 of the final 24 points to capture their second road win of the season
