Buffalo notches rare win at Toledo

TOLEDO, OH – An 8-of-12 start from 3-point range helped propel the Buffalo Bulls to a 73-68 win over Toledo at Savage Arena. The wire-to-wire win  -- only the third UB victory  ever at Toledo --  improved Buffalo to 12-9 on the season and 5-3 in MAC play. UT dropped to 12-9, 3-5 MAC.  
 
The Bulls got off to a quick start offensively as their first four field goals all came from three-point range, including three of those from junior Blake Hamilton.  Another triple from freshman CJ Massinburg extended the UB lead to 25-16 with 10:15 left in the first half, and a layup from senior Rodell Wigginton gave the Bulls their largest advantage of the stanza at 36-24 with 4:05 left.  UB went into the break with a 38-28 lead.

Wilder erupts for 35 as Broncos defeat EMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Sophomore point guard Thomas Wilder tallied 35 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, leading Western Michigan to a 94-86 victory over visiting Eastern Michigan Saturday at University Arena.
 
The 35 points from Wilder were the most produced by a Bronco this season, as well as a career high. His 10 rebounds were also a personal best.
 
Wilder was dialed in from 3-point range, going 5-for-5 from behind the arc. Three other Broncos were perfect from distance, as senior Jared Klein and freshman Bryce Moore hit both of their 3-point attempts and freshman Josh Davis was 1-for-1. As a team, WMU went 10-for-14 from behind the 3-point line and shot 49.2 percent overall from the field.

CMU dumps Bowling Green behind Fowler’s big night

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. –  Central Michigan got 27 points from Chris Fowler Saturday in disposing of Bowling Green, 77-65, before a season-high 3,758 at McGuirk Arena.

It was CMU’s third straight win – its first three-game win streak of the season – and lifted the Chippewas to 12-9 overall, 5-3 in the Mid-American Conference.

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Akron Zips  used a 14-0 run and 52-percent shooting performance en route to a 73-64 Mid-American Conference win over Ball State Saturday at Worthen Arena.
 
Akron has now won four straight games, improving to 17-4 overall and 6-2 in MAC play, while BSU fell to 13-8 and 4-4 in league play.

OXFORD,Ohio – Saturday’s Northern Illinois at Miami basketball game result will be fodder for all those coaches prone to saying, “Anything can happen in MAC play.”
 
Despite the absence of All-MAC point guard Eric Washington and an in-game injury to guard Zach McCormick, Miami expanded a one-point halftime lead and went on to a 72-59 win over Northern Illinois Saturday at Millett Hall.
 
NIU, 16-5, 5-3 MAC, entered Saturday alone atop the Western Division. Miami, (7-14, 1-7 MAC) brought a 10-game losing streak to the matchup and had not won a game in conference play.

Campbell nets career high as Ohio knocks off KSU

ATHENS, Ohio -- Junior forward Antonio Campbell set a new career-high with 28 points and had a team-high seven rebounds as the Ohio Bobcats (13-7, 4-4 MAC) cruised to a 72-61 win over Mid-American Conference East Division rival Kent State (15-6, 6-2 MAC) on Friday in a nationally televised contest in front of 6,713 fans at the Convocation Center.
 
Campbell shot 11-of-19 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe and finished with a team-high seven rebounds. He also posted two blocks and one steal in 30 minutes.

Mid-American Conference leader Kent State will be tested on the road Friday as it kicks off the MAC weekend against Ohio at the Convocation Center. The game will be televised on ESPN U (9 p.m. ET).
​

Kent State, at 6-1 MAC, is one step ahead of Akron in the East and Northern Illinois in the West. Both are 5-2.  Akron heads to Ball State (3-4 MAC) Saturday, while NIU visits Oxford to play a banged-up Miami team that is currently on a 10-game slide.

CMU breaks one streak as Miami continues another

OXFORD, Ohio -- Consistency paid off for the Central Michigan Chippewas Tuesday as they pulled away in the second half for a 68-51 win over Miami at Millett Hall.
 
It was the second straight win for CMU, which last won in Oxford back on Feb. 27, 1991. It was also the first back-to-back wins against Miami since 1987-88.
 
Central Michigan is still trying to forge the form that took it to the MAC tournament finals last year. But after finishing 23-9, the Chippewas were hit by injuries early. One key loss was senior guard and catalyst Chris Fowler, a 2014-15 First Team All-MAC member. He missed seven games to start this season, and CMU dropped five of those contests.

Ohio survives massive Toledo comeback

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Redshirt sophomore guard Jaaron Simmons tied the school and conference record with 17 assists and recorded his fourth double-double of the 2015-16 season with 12 points as the Ohio Bobcats (12-7, 3-4 MAC) held on for a wild 81-79 win over Mid-American Conference West Division foe Toledo (12-8, 3-4 MAC) on Tuesday at Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.

The Bobcats shot a season-best 54.7 percent (29-of-53) from the field and matched their season high with 14 three-point field goals made on 27 attempts. Meanwhle, Ohio held Toledo to 40.6 percent (26-of-64) from the field -- including 40.0 percent (10-of-25) from three-point range.

Falcons pull out road win at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore guard Matt Fox drained a three-pointer from the left wing with 53 seconds left to give the Falcons the lead, and Bowling Green got two free throws from senior Spencer Parker with 3.2 seconds left on the game clock to seal a 79-78 come-from-behind road win over the Western Michigan Broncos Tuesday night at University Arena.

The Falcons improved to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in league play with the win. BGSU also improved to 3-0 on the road in MAC play on the season with wins at Ohio, at Eastern Michigan and WMU. The Broncos slipped to 8-12, 2-5 MAC.

Flashes shake off slow start to down EMU

KENT, Ohio – Khaliq Spicer dominated both ends of the floor and Kent State's offense found its stride against Eastern Michigan's daunting 2-3 zone while pulling away to a 73-58 victory on Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center.

Win No. 5 in a row for KSU, combined with a Northern Illinois loss on Tuesday, gives the Golden Flashes (15-5, 6-1) sole possession of first-place in the Mid-American Conference standings.

BUFFALO, NY – The force was with the Buffalo Bulls Tuesday evening as the Bulls returned home in front of a packed student crowd on Star Wars Night and defeated the Ball State Cardinals, 76-64.   

The win was UB's third in its last four games as the Bulls improve to 11-9 on the season and 4-3 in MAC play. Ball State, which pulled out a controversial 88-87 win at Eastern Michigan Saturday, slipped to 13-7, 4-3 MAC.

Akron pulls away late to remain undefeated at home

AKRON, OHIO – Two of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference battled it out Tuesday night at Rhodes Arena. After 40 minutes of basketball, it was the home-standing Akron Zips who emerged victorious, 76-66, over the Northern Illinois Huskies before a boisterous crowd of 3,205.
 
Akron (16-4, 5-2 MAC) scored 20 of the game’s last 30 points over the last 5:10 to remain undefeated at home with a 10-0 mark and remained one game behind Kent State in the Eastern Division as the Golden Flashes defeated Eastern Michigan 73-58.

• The Mid-American Conference is ranked 10th overall in the latest RPI (courtesy of RPIRatings.com). The highest the MAC has ever finished as a conference in the RPI rankings is 12th (2007-08, 2013-14 & 2014-15)

•  Northern Illinois (79th), Kent State (80th) & Akron (92nd) are currently ranked within the Top 100 of the RPI.

• Kent State tied a school record with 9 blocked shots Tuesday night at Ball State, with senior Khaliq Spicer setting a school-record with 7 rejections.

•  MAC Men’s Basketball teams have protected home court, boasting a record of 74-9 (.892) vs. non-conference opponents this season.
