Toledo bowl win slips away in final seconds

TUCSON, Ariz. – Toledo led for much of the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl, but fell to Wyoming by a score of 16-15 on a 24-yard field goal as time expired at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. on Saturday.

The Rockets led 15-6 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Cowboys scored 10 unanswered points in the final frame to pull ahead for the win. A 12-play, 87-yard drive ended when Wyoming's John Hoyland knocked the game-winning field goal through the uprights on the game's final play.

Finn-less Rockets look to finish with win

After an upset loss in the MAC Championship game, the Toledo Rockets have a chance to end their 2023 campaign on a winning note when they face Wyoming in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl.

A victory would raise's UT's record to 12-2, with the Rockets reeling off 11 straight wins after a season-opening loss at Illinois. Wyoming, meanwhile, owns an 8-4 record. The Cowboys won three of their last four contests, outscoring their last two opponents 84-15.

This will be the third meeting between Toledo and Wyoming. The Cowboys won in Toledo, 20-15, in 2010 while the Rockets came out on top in Laramie, 34-31, in 2012.

Late Falcons rally falls short against Minnesota

Hillare shines with 10 catches, 152 yards, 1 TD

DETROIT, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University football team fell just short on Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 26), as the University of Minnesota downed the Falcons, 30-24, in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field.

Connor Bazelak threw for 221 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons (7-6), and Odieu Hiliare had 10 receptions for 152 of those yards. Hiliare caught the TD pass, and Bazelak and PaSean Wimberly each ran for a score.

The Falcons had a 303-281 lead in total offense in the game. Darius Taylor provided the bulk of the offense for the Golden Gophers (6-7), rushing for 208 yards on 35 carries.

EMU issues apology after bowl post-game incident

The following statement was issued by Eastern Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee after a post-game incident at Saturday's 68 Ventures Bowl.

Various on-line videos appear to show (and Yahoo Sports reports -- SEE HERE) EMU's Korey Hernandez initiated a physical confrontation as South Alabama players were singing their alma mater in front of home fans and the Jaguars band.

South Alabama dominated throughout and won the game 59-10 on its home field.

"We strongly condemn the actions of some of the student-athletes on the EMU football team in the ugly incident that took place following . . .

Jaguars overpower EMU in bowl action

MOBILE, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team closed out its 2023 season with a 59-10 loss to the University of South Alabama Saturday in the 68 Ventures Bowl. The Eagles, who competed in a program-record third consecutive bowl game, finished the year with a 6-7 record.

Quarterback Cam'Ron McCoy led the Eagles offense as the junior set career-highs across the board, finishing the game with 12 completions for 73 yards while rushing the ball 13 times for 73 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry. McCoy also notched the first touchdown of his career as he found pay dirt from 10 yards out in the fourth quarter.

First half offense lifts Huskies to Camellia Bowl win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – "Complimentary football." It is one of Northern Illinois University head coach Thomas Hammock's favorite phrases as he describes what it takes to win a football game.

On Saturday in the 10th Annual Camellia Bowl in the history Cramton Bowl, that is exactly what Hammock's 2023 Huskies displayed to earn a 21-19 win over Arkansas State – and the program's first bowl win since a 38-20 win over Arkansas State in Mobile, Alabama following the 2011 season.

PREVIEW -- Eastern Michigan vs South Alabama

Saturday, Dec. 23 -- 7:00 p.m. ET ... Hancock Whitney Stadium -- Mobile, Ala ... ESPN/BET

Eastern Michigan is appearing in its third straight bowl game and has a chance to make some more history when it takes on South Alabama Saturday in the 68 Venture Bowl. A victory for the Eagles would mark consecutive Division I bowl wins for the first time in the history of the program.

South Alabama, meanwhile, is playing in back-to-back bowl for the first time. The Jaguars went 10-2 in 2022 and went to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. They finished the 2023 regular season at 6-6 (4-4 Sun Belt).

The 2023 68 Ventures Bowl will be played on South Alabama’s home field in . . .

TOLEDO, OH -- Visiting Vermont shot 54.1 percent from the field and held Toledo to 18.2 percent (4 of 22) outside the arc on the way to an 86-60 Catamount win Wednesday at Savage Arena. It was just the second home loss for UT (6-5), while Vermont raised its season mark to 9-4.
Tyler Cochran led the Rockets with 12 points, while Sonny Wilson and Dante Maddox Jr. contributed 11 apiece. Vermont junior guard TJ Long led all scorers with 19 points.
