Toledo adds to football signing class TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo football team will welcome 35 newcomers to its 2024 squad, including 23 high school players, three junior college transfers and nine transfers from other four-year institutions. Head Coach Jason Candle unveiled the complete list of signees on Wednesday, the traditional national signing day for college football. Candle and his staff inked 28 members of the Rockets' 2024 recruiting class during the early signing period in December. Since then, Toledo has added six preferred walk-ons and another transfer, Lance Dixon, a five-star linebacker coming out of high school who most recently played at West Virginia. "I think we've signed a talented group of guys who first and foremost are great human beings who take their academics very seriously," said Candle, a two-time MAC Coach of the Year who is entering his ninth season as Toledo's head coach. "We have a lot of winners in this class, guys who have played for state championships. Many of them are enrolled already so we are excited to have them here and going through winter workouts." Toledo's 2024 recruiting class ranks first in the Mid-American Conference, according to 247 Sports, which gave it a score of 180.43, the highest ever in the MAC since it began ranking classes in 1999. It is the sixth time the Rockets have had the No. 1 class in the MAC since Candle assumed the reins as head coach in December of 2015. Toledo's national ranking was 62nd, putting it ahead of "Power Five" schools such as UCLA, Baylor, Virginia, Washington State, Utah and Arizona. "I'm happy with the rankings but there is so much development that has to happen between now and the first time that most of these guys will see the field," said Candle. The Rockets stayed close to home for the majority of their class, bringing in 23 players from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. UT also added players from Florida (six), Kansas (two), Georgia (one), Mississippi (one), Texas (one), and Illinois (one). SEE MORE HERE!
