Ben Vander Plas scored 17 points and led a key second half rally as Ohio came from behind to edge the Virginia Cavaliers Saturday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. With the victory, the Bobcats move on to face No. 5 seed Creighton Monday night in Indianapolis. "I'm just really, really proud of our guys," Ohio head coach Jeff Boals said. "There were multiple times in the second half they could have broke. We always talk about bend but don't break. We got down 38-31, Ben Vander Plas made some huge plays in the second half. Jason Preston made some great plays, made big free throws down the stretch. Very fortunate to win the game." Virginia, defending NCAA tournament champions, owned a No. 4 seed for this year's event. CLEVELAND, OH -- Ohio's start Friday night at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse may not have been a complete knockout, but the Bobcats certainly jolted Buffalo's Bulls. Buffalo, which had won three straight MAC tournament titles, spent the night trying to recover from Ohio's blitz. However, the Bobcats eventually walked away with an 84-69 victory to claim the 2021 MAC tournament championship and an automatic bid to this year's NCAA tourney.
