MRO PREVIEW: Miami at Notre Dame

Chicago-area native Chuck Martin has spent the vast majority of his fall days on this earth cheering for Notre Dame football. Through hard work and associations, he eventually got to serve as an offensive coordinator for the Irish.
 
Even after leaving South Bend to take over a struggling Miami RedHawks program, Martin pulled for ND victories.
 
He will likely do so in the future, but he won’t on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017. That is when his Miami team . . .

If  "conference games are the meat and potatoes of the schedule," the Akron Zips and Bowling Green Falcons are about to battle over the first serving of a MAC meal.
 
Akron lost a heartbreaker last week at Troy, battling back to take a one-point lead late in the fourth quarter, only to see the home team engineer a 97-yard drive to snatch the victory . Meanwhile, Bowling Green slipped to 0-4 for the first tine since 2000 by losing at Middle Tennessee.

Two teams tracking in different direction will square off Saturday when Kent State and Buffalo meet to begin their Mid-American Conference slates.
 
KSU has lost two straight after getting dominated last week in every phase of the game at Louisville, Buffalo has won its last two -- both at home after a pair of losses on the road.
 
Saturday’s game is the 23rd lifetime meeting between the two schools with the series deadlocked at 11-11

Two teams coming off major disappointments will square off Saturday when Eastern Michigan visits SEC foe Kentucky.
Seeing its first Mid-American Conference action of 2017, hosting EMU fell to Ohio in two overtimes, 27-20. It was the first loss of the season for Eastern.

The Northern Illinois Huskies will try to execute a simple answer -- Beat a top 20 team -- Saturday when they meet San Diego State at SDCCU Stadium (formerly Qualcom Stadium).

The Aztecs have remained perfect in 2017 with four straight wins coming out of the game. The stretch included victories at Arizona State, at home against No. 19/19 Stanford and at Air Force.

--  The Ohio University Bobcats scored on both of their overtime possessions to defeat the Eastern Michigan Eagles 27-20 Sturday at Rynearson Stadium. It was the Mid-American Conference opener for both schools.

BUFFALO, NY – New faces played a part as the Buffalo Bulls turned a 17-17 halftime standoff into a 34-31 victory Saturday at UB Stadium. It was the Bulls second consecutive victory as they wrapped on non-conference play.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Ball State Cardinals overcame a 10-point deficit to grab a late lead on the road Saturday night, only to see Western Kentucky spoil the comeback.
 
The two-time defending Conference USA champions answered Caleb Huntley's go-ahead touchdown run with their only touchdown drive of the second half in the closing minutes. WKU then tacked on a pick-six on its way to a 33-21 victory.
