NASSAU -- Sayeed Pridgett’s two free throws with 1.2 seconds left gave undefeated Montana (4.0) a 73-71 victory over the the Miami RedHawks (2-2) Saturday at Kendal Issacs Gymnasium in Islands of the Bahamas Showcase tournament action.
The RedHawks led by one (33-32) at halftime, and the two teams continued to battle through the second stanza. The Grizzlies held small lead early and the game was knotted at 60-all before Miami took a five-point lead following a trey by Nike Sibande and two free throws by Abdoulaye Harouna.
Senior point guard Darrien Ringo knotted the score at 71 on a layup with six seconds left, but Montana rushed the ball back down the court. Pridgett, a 6-5 junior guard was fouled with 1.2 seconds left, and he sank his only two free throws of the game.
The charity stripe was a busy place most of the night as the two teams combined for 59 attempts.
Montana made 18-of-26 attempts (69.2%) overall, while Miami was solid with 28-of-33 (84.8%) free throws.
However, the RedHawks connected on just 39.6 percent (19-of-48) from the field overall and 6-of-18 (27.8%) on treys.
Montana, on the other hand, made 23-of-46 (50%) field goal attempts and nine 9-of-19 (47.4%) from beyond the arc. Ultimately, it was just enough to overcome RedHawk advantages at the free throw line and on the boards (33-22).
Four Grizzlies -- two starters and two from the bench -- reached double figures. Junior Kendal Manuel led the way with 16 points, followed by Rorie (15), Donovan Dorsey (14) and Michael Oguine (13).
Miami also put four players in double figures. Sibande, who hit 3-of-13 overall and 1-of-8 treys) led the way with 16 points. Chipping in 12 points apiece were Bam Bowman, Dalonte Brown and Jalen Adaway.
Miami meets PeppErdine Sunday (5 p.m. ET) in the tournament’s third place game.
