Among the changes was Painter’s insertion of Carsen Edwards as a starter. He responded with a game high 30 points to help rejuvenate the Boilermaker offense. Overall, Purdue shot 56.7 percent from the field and 48.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Ohio, meanwhile, connected on 23-of-56 (41.1%) overall and 37.5 percent at long range. It was not nearly enough against a volatile Purdue squad that registered its highest point total of the season. The hosts led by 13 at the half and pulled away after intermission
"We weren't able to establish position inside," head coach Saul Phillips said. "I thought we played a little bit timid and didn't attack like we do when we are playing well. I give Purdue a lot of credit, they came out very physical and very tough, and we didn't counter very well."
Sophomore guard Teyvion Kirk and freshman forward Ben Vander Plas each scored 15 points to lead Ohio.
