The Broncos scored a season-high 99 points against the Saints with four players scoring in double figures. As a team the Brown & Gold shot a staggering 57.4 percent from the floor and 55.2 percent from long distance. At the free-throw line WMU was 21-of-32 and went to the line 28 times in the second half.
Close behind Flowers was senior Josh Davis who poured in 15 points with five rebounds, one assists and two steals. Davis shot 58 percent (7-of-12) from the floor highlighted by a breakaway windmill dunk late in the first half. To see Davis’ windmill dunk.
Off the bench the Canadian freshman duo of William Boyer-Richard and Patrick Emilien each notched career-highs as Boyer-Richard had 13 points while Emilien had 11. Boyer-Richard was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the three-point line and is shooting 62.5 percent from distance this season.
Along with his 11 points, Emilien registered a career-high five rebounds and one steal in 19 minutes played. Senior center Seth Dugan continued his solid play this season registering eight points and eight rebounds against Aquinas in 17 minutes.
The freshman duo of Adrian Martin and Luke Toliver each had a career-high eight points off the bench. Martin knocked down his first three field goals of the season coupled with a career-high four assists. Toliver in eight minutes was 2-of-3 from long distance while having one assist and one steal.
Junior Adida Ikongshul gave WMU quality minutes off the bench as well with four points and five rebounds. Sophomore Kawanise Wilkins provided an all-around game with five points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Overall WMU forced Aquinas to commit 17 turnovers, scoring 33 points off those turnovers. The Broncos outrebounded the Saints, 41-25 and held an 11-9 advantage on the offensive glass.
The victory improves WMU’s record to 3-1, marking the best start for WMU since 2014. It will be a quick turnaround for the Broncos as they square off with Cincinati on Monday, Nov. 19. WMU then heads to Florida for two games at the Emerald Coast Classic, Nov. 23-24.
WMU quickly jumped out to a 12-2 lead just three minutes into the contest with four points coming from Dugan in the paint. Later in the first half, Aquinas answered back with three straight field goals to cut the Bronco lead down to 18-13 at the 12-minute mark.
Aquinas cut the lead down to six midway through the first before WMU embarked on an 8-0 run to extend its lead back to double digits. Down the stretch the Brown & Gold made eight straight field goals to take a 48-27 lead into halftime.
To begin the second half, the Broncos embarked on a 13-0 run to extend their lead and led by 30 at the under-16 media timeout. With 10 minutes remaining in the game WMU embarked on a 17-1 run highlighted by three straight three-pointers to hold an 83-41 lead.
The Broncos led by as many as 49 in the second half as Aquinas made just two of their final 13 field goal attempts and shot 29.2 percent from the field. Despite making just one field goal the final four minutes of the game, the Broncos continued to cruise to a 99-52 victory.
