MOSCOW, ID – Visiting Ohio jumped out to an early 21-0 lead and used three Vandal turnovers to post a 45-28 victory over Idaho Thursday at the Kibbie Dome in the season opener for both teams

Senior Bobcat quarterback Derrius Vick completed 13-of-16 for 192 yards and two TDs. Junior JD Sprague hit 7-of-9 for 92 yards with one touchdown pass.

Sophomore Brendan Cope led Ohio receiving with four catches for 129 yards and 1 TD. Junior Jordan Reid also scored a TD while totaling four receptions for 68 yards.

"Our line has been working pretty hard,” Patterson said. “Those guys did a great job up front for us and we have a few backs that, as we've been talking about, can run the ball. So the 200 yards doesn't surprise me cause I know the work we've been putting in."

Quarterback Matt Linehan completed 36-of-48 for 300 yards and a touchdown as Idaho spent much of the game trying to catch the Bobcats. Dezmon Epps was a frequent target for the Vandals, pulling in 15 passes for 163 yards.

Linehan, however, tossed two interceptions and the Ohio defense limited UI to 100 yards rushing. Elijhaa Penny accounted for 69 of that total with 17 carries and also contributed two touchdowns.

OU, meanwhile, totaled 205 yards on the ground. Dazmond Patterson led the way with 13 carries for 84 yards (6.5 ypc) and one TD. A.J. Ouellette chipped in 48 yards.

“I was proud of our kids. We had to battle back several times in the game to not let that lead shrink to where it could be a problem for us,” head coach Frank Solich said. “There are a number of things we can improve on, I know that. But we’ve got some pretty good talent and it shows at times.”

NOTES:

>  Josiah Yazdani attempted two field goals – both in the third quarter. He was good one the first one (37 yards) but missed the second (31 yards) as time expired.

>  Both quarterbacks (Vick of OU and Linehan of Idaho) lost one fumble. Those were the only fumbles by each team.

>  Ohio got 7 points off of turnovers. Idaho had zero.

>  Ohio was 4-of-10 on third down conversions, while Idaho converted 4-of-14.

>  Quentin Poling paced OU defenders with 12 tackles, including two sacks. Quinton Bradley had two sacks for the Vandals.
