OXFORD, OH -- Trailing for most of the game, the Miami RedHawks tied Delaware at 64-all with 14 seconds left Friday night at Millett Hall. Chivarsky Corbett, however, answered the MU trey a three of his own, and that proved to be the winning score in a 68-66 Delaware Blue Hen win over Miami.
It was the nightcap contest of , , ,
Delaware’s lead never quite reached double digits Friday, but the Blue Hens took a 9-7 lead at 16:13 of the first half and remained in front until Rod Mills’ triple with 14 ticks left. Corbett hit his three with seven seconds left and Michael Weathers hit two free throws for MU with three seconds remaining.
Weathers was a key part of Miami’s comeback. After scoring just five points in the first half, he added 19 after intermission to lead all scorers with 24 markers. However, MU had just one other player in double figures. Jake Wright tallied 11 points – all in the first half, which ended with Delaware in front, 35-29.
Delaware, on the other hand, put four players in double figures. Anthony Mosley led with 17, followed by Corbett (16), Darian Bryant (16) and Cazmon Hayes (13).
Delaware, paced by Eric Carter’s 11 caroms, owned a 37-31 advantage on the boards and did just enough at the line to pull out the victory. The Blue Hens made 17 of 24 charity tosses, while Miami hit 15 of 22.
MU returns to action Saturday when it takes on Austin Peay at Millett Hall. The Governors came from behind to defeat Northern Kentucky, 77-69, in Friday’s first game.
