The Bulls came out . . .
Western Michigan came out in the second half and took its first lead of the night, building a 44-40 lead with 16:54 left, but UB answered quickly with four straight points. The Broncos again led 49-47 with 13:54 left when the Bulls went on a 12-2 run, capped off by a Jeremy Harris three-pointer, pulling the Bulls ahead 59-51 and they never looked back.
Western Michigan cut it to four at 59-55 when the Bulls scored seven straight as a jumper from Perkins put the Bulls ahead 66-55. However, the Broncos would never cut it any closer than eight. A pair of free throws from Perkins gave UB its largest lead of the game at 77-64 with 2:12 left and UB won by double figures for the sixth straight time.
Western Michigan fell to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in MAC play. The Broncos were led by 16 points apiece from Thomas Wilder and Josh Davis. Sophomore Brandon Johnson contributed 12 points, while Bryce Moore (11) and Reggie Jones (14) were also in double figures.
Like the hosts, Buffalo Bulls enjoyed a balanced scoring attack as four UB players reached double figures, paced by 20-point nights from Harris and CJ Massinburg. Harris added six rebounds, while the 20-point night for Massinburg was his 10th of the year. He also added eight rebounds.
Perkins had 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while senior Wes Clark finished with 17 points and nine assists, while adding five rebounds.
Freshman Jayvon Graves had five points and junior Dontay Caruthers, making his first appearance since Dec. 2, scored four points and added two assists.
The Bulls outrebounded the Broncos, 43-35, while UB again did a nice job sharing the basketball, finishing with 18 assists.
UB held a 34-28 lead in the paint, a 12-2 lead in fast-break points, and a 27-19 advantage in bench points.
The 6-0 start for the Bulls is their best ever start to conference play in school history, regardless of conference. The 14-5 record for the Bulls is their best through 19 games since the 2008-09 season.
Buffalo will return to Alumni Arena looking to improve to 7-0 in the MAC on Tuesday night when the Bulls host Eastern Michigan at 7pm.
Western will try to rebound Tuesday when it hosts Toledo (7 p.m. ET) in a big Western Division matchup.
