Leipold led the Bulls to a 5-7 mark in 2015, becoming the first UB head coach to win five games in his debut season since Bob Deming went 6-3 in 1969. Included in the Bulls five wins was a victory at Florida Atlantic - Buffalo's first non-conference road win since the 2009 season. In addition, the Bulls won three road games in 2015 – tying the record for the most in UB's FBS era (since 1999).
Leipold was hired as the 25th head coach in UB football history on December 1, 2014. A six-time National Coach of the Year, Leipold brought with him to Buffalo a 109-6 career record from Wisconsin-Whitewater and is the fastest coach in NCAA history to reach 100 wins.
