BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Bulls rolled up 486 yards of total offense to defeat Colgate, 33-10, in the home opener at UB Stadium on Saturday night. The Bulls scored on their first five possessions of the game to jump out to a 30-3 lead and never looked back.
Buffalo rushed for . . .

. . . a season-high 302 yards on 58 carries in the game. Sophomore Emmanuel Reed had a breakout game for the Bulls, rushing for a career-high 120 yards. Quarterback Tyree Jackson also posted a career-high in rushing yards with 97 on only 12 carries.

"We were going to emphasize the run game early and establish the line of scrimmage," head coach Lance Leipold said. "If you looked at our first two games, we generated big plays through the air, but we never got the running game consistently going. To see us methodically move down the field was a pleasure to see."

The Bulls took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards on 11 plays, capped by a 14-yard touchdown run by Jackson to take an early 7-0 lead.

After a three-and-out for the Raiders on their first possession, Buffalo needed only four plays to score their second touchdown of the game. The big play on the drive was a 58-yard pass play from Jackson to tight end Tyler Mabry. Jackson connected with Anthony Johnson on a 14-yard touchdown on the very next play to extend the UB lead to 14-0.

After Colgate kicked a field goal on its next possession, to make the score 14-3, the Bulls got the ball back and marched down the field again. Reed scored on a 10-yard touchdown run, the first of his career, to make the score 20-3 late in the first quarter.

The 20-point first quarter was Buffalo's highest-scoring first quarter since scoring 21 at Temple in 2007.

Buffalo mounted an 84-yard scoring drive early in the second quarter and scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run by Johnathan Hawkins to take a 27-3 lead.

Another long pass play from Jackson to Johnson, this time a 47-yarder, helped set up the touchdown.Adam Mitcheson then added a 26-yard field, as time expired, to give UB a 30-3 lead at the half.
Mitcheson's 21-yard field late in the fourth quarter capped the scoring for the Bulls.

Jackson finished the game 9-of-16 passing for 184 yards and a touchdown. Johnson (2/60), K.J. Osborn (2/31) and Kamathi Holsey (2/14) all had two catches for the Bulls.

Defensively, the Bulls held Colgate to just 56 yards passing – their second straight game holding an opponent to under 60 yards though the air.

Demone Harris led the Bulls with six tackles as 25 different UB players registered a tackle in the game. Chuck Harris added five tackles, all solo, and had a tackle for loss. Chibueze Onwuka and Kennedy Emesibe each registered the first sacks of their UB careers.

Buffalo improved to 1-2 with the win and will host Florida Atlantic next Saturday night at UB Stadium.
