Saturday’s Reycom Media Camellia Bowl brings together two teams desperate for a win to close their respective 2014 season.

Mid-American Conference representative Bowling Green (7-6, 5-3 MAC) will meet the South Alabama Jaguars at the Crampton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama (9:15 p.m., ESPN).

South Alabama (6-6, 5-3 Sun Belt) barely reached bowl eligibility, managing to pull out one critical win over its final five games.  Bowling Green, meanwhile, reached bowl eligibility way back in early November. Counting the MAC championship game, however, the Falcons are currently on a three-game losing streak.

MAC Report Online takes a look at the Jaguars with the following overview.

(CLICK READ MORE TO CONTINUE . . . )
►The fact that South Alabama qualified for a bowl game at all is somewhat historic. USA truly started from scratch back in 2009 and began a two-year transition from unclassified to Division I – FBS status. After five years of competition and two years of bowl eligibility, the Jaguars replaced Florida Atlantic as the youngest FBS team to reach a bowl game.

► Somewhat ironically, South Alabama plays its home games at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama. That is the site of the GoDaddy Bowl, which will match Toledo against Arkansas State on Jan. 4.

► Both teams played Kent State during the regular season. South Alabama defeated the Flashes, 23-20, Sept. 20 in Kent. Bowling Green posted a 30-20 home field victory over the Flashes Nov. 12. That was the last BG win of the season.

►USA ranks 92nd in total offense (4,473 yards) and 113th in scoring (20-2 ppg, one spot behind Ohio University).

► The Jaguars rank 48th in the nation in rushing yards with 182.6 ypg. Senior RB Kendall Houston (5-10, 230) leads the team with 652 yards on 134 carries (4.9 ypc). However, he has just one TD to his credit. Xavier Johnson registered 417 yards on 74 trips (5.6 ypc), but he also had one TD. Three players – Jay Jones, Terrance Timmons, and quarterback Brandon Bridge combined for 1,031 yards and nine touchdowns.

► South Alabama ranks 100 nationally in passing yards (190.2 ypg).  Quarterback Brandon Bridge has completed 52.8 percent of his passes (140/270) with 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

► Senior Shavarez Smith (6-1, 210) is the Jaguars top receiver. He has 50 receptions for 714 yards and 8 TDs with a long of 67. Jereme Jones, Danny Woodson and Brandon Bowman have combined for 74 catches and 787 yards with 6 touchdowns.

► Trrell Brigham led the team in tackles with 101 stops, including 60 solos and 2 fumble recoveries. Maleki Harris is next with 77. Theo Rich totaled 42 tackles. He led the team with 12.0 TFL and 8.0 sacks.

►Kicker Aleem Sunanon has connected on 15-of-18 field goals and 20 of 22 PATs. He registered four FG of 40 or more yards with a long of 46.
