Western Michigan Broncos NLI Signings
"This has been the most interesting class we've recruited," said Lester. "I think five of the 19 guys that have visited campus (due to COVID-19). One of the unique things about the way recruiting went this year was the amount of interaction we were able to have. I have probably spoken face-to-face, via Zoom, more than ever. I feel like I'm closer with this class than any other."
The class ranks third in the Mid-American Conference per Rivals (as of Wednesday 12/16 at 1 p.m.), with the five three-star prospects giving WMU the second-most in the league. Thirteen of the prospects are ranked among the top-50 in their native states by 247Sports. Since 2014, Western Michigan's class has ranked among the top three in the MAC each year according at least one national recruiting service.
"I think we addressed everything we wanted to address," Lester added. "The offensive line was a huge part, along with wide receivers and defensive line in this class. But then I think we hit every position group and got better in each position group. We're excited about the guys we got, excited about their future and excited to finally get them here.
"For the things we needed and the depth we needed at different places, this group has been together for a long time and committed for a long time. We were happy to watch them all sign and officially become Broncos."
Representing eight states, including three signees from Michigan and five additional signees from neighboring Indiana and Ohio, the class welcomes four offensive linemen and four defensive linemen, as well as four receivers and two linebackers. The class includes a quarterback, running back, tight end, safety and cornerback.
