NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt blocked a punt for a touchdown and scored again with 1:08 left in the game to rally back for a 34-31 win over the UMass football team on Saturday afternoon.

The Minutemen (0-3) led the entire way until giving up the second fourth quarter touchdown. The Minutemen jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Frohanpfel to Rodney Mills, followed by a 53-yard fake punt touchdown reception to Mills again.

A Lucas 32-yard field goal with 8:43 remaining in the second period made it 17-7, but nearly two minutes later, a UMass fumble was recovered by Vanderbilt in the endzone to pull the Commodores within four.

UMass once again responded with a nine-play, 78-yard drive that was finished by Lorenzo Woodley's two-yard touchdown plunge with 3:50 to go in the first half. Vandy closed the first half scoring just prior to halftime with a three-yard touchdown toss from Robinette to Scheu.

The third quarter was marked by Woodley's second touchdown of the game, giving UMass a 31-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.

After the blocked punt, UMass was forced into a three-and-out situation, but the defense stepped up by holding Vanderbilt to just 17 yards and stopping a fourth-down conversion attempt.

UMass again was unable to score on the ensuing possession, giving the ball back to Vanderbilt.

The Commodores took advantage with a pair of receptions by C.J. Duncan, setting Vanderbilt up at the UMass four-yard line. Ralph Webb scored on the next play to give Vandy a 34-31 lead.

With 1:08 left on the clock and a kick return by Joe Colton to the UMass 40 yard line, the Minutemen were able to march down the field with a 19-yard pass to Tajae Shapre and a 16-yard run by Elgin Long.
