Fellow senior Thomas Wilder poured in a team-high 15 points along with four rebounds and four assists. Wilder has led the Broncos in scoring in every contest this season.
Off the bench, sophomore Reggie Jones nearly had a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds. It’s the sixth straight game in which WMU has had a least three score in double figures.
Defensively, WMU recorded a season-high seven blocks with junior Josh Davis tying a career-high with three. The Broncos outrebounded the Timberwolves, 44-28 and held Northwood to just 32.8 percent shooting from the field. Northwood guard Alec Marty led all scorers with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
It was a back and forth affair during the early stages of the first half as Northwood trailed by just two at the ten-minute mark of the first half.
The Broncos responded over the final seven minutes however, embarking on a 22-7 run to take a commanding 43-27 lead into halftime. During the final seven minutes of play, the Broncos went 7-of-9 from the field while forcing Northwood to commit seven turnovers.
In the second half, the Broncos extended their lead to 34 after a 17-4 run put WMU up 69-35 with five minutes remaining. Down the stretch, WMU connected on five of their last seven field goals and led wire-to-wire to improve its overall record to 3-3 and 2-0 at home.
Under head coach Steve Hawkins, WMU has a record of 60-14 in home non-conference match-ups and overall has won eight straight home games. The eight game home winning streak is the longest since 2014.
Next up for the Broncos is a trip to the state of Missouri for a showdown with Saint Louis on Tuesday. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Midwest. The Billikens are 3-2 on the season with victories over Seattle, Rockhurst and Virginia Tech.
