BUFFALO, NY -- Jeff Quinn has been relieved of his duties as head football coach at the University at Buffalo, effective immediately, UB Athletics Director Danny White announced today.
"It is with great disappointment that we have to make this change," White said. "Unfortunately, the performance on the field this season and over Coach Quinn's tenure has not matched our expectations for the growth of Bulls football.
"With the bye week, our coaches and student-athletes have an opportunity to evaluate themselves and make the changes needed to improve," White said. "We have some very talented and hard-working student athletes on this team and we hope this change shifts the course of the 2014 season.
"On behalf of UB Athletics, I thank Jeff for his service to the university and to the football program. Jeff and his wife, Shannon, have been great supporters of the University at Buffalo. We wish them well in their future pursuits."
Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks Coach Alex Wood has been named interim head football coach for the remainder of the season.
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
In his fifth season, Quinn's coaching record at UB was 20-36.
With today's announcement, UB Athletics will not comment further on Quinn's tenure as football coach or on the search for a new head coach.
