East Division Offensive Player of the Week: Miami QB Gus Ragland Miami sophomore quarterback Gus Ragland (Cincinnati, Ohio) completed 13-of-21 passes for a career-high 218 yards and four touchdowns in Miami's 37-17 win over Central Michigan. Ragland, added 60 yards rushing on 13 carries to help secure Miami's fourth consecutive win and help the RedHawks move to 4-2 in Mid-American Conference play. Defensive Player of the Week: Ohio LB Blair Brown Ohio senior linebacker Blair Brown (Moreno Valley, Calif.) led with 11 tackles and two sacks in a 34-10 win over Buffalo last week. Brown had five solo stops in the outing and anchored a defense which held Buffalo without a red zone touchdown. Brown leads Ohio with 89 total tackles and 50 solo stops. Brown ranks second on the team with 4.0 sacks. Special Teams Player of the Week: Ohio K Louis Zervos Ohio redshirt freshman kicker Louis Zervos (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) went 2-2 on field goals and 4-4 on PAT in Ohio’s 34-10 win over Buffalo last week. Zervos’ second field goal of the game was a career-long 51-yard kick and the 10th longest field goal in Ohio history and the longest field goal kicked in the MAC this season. He also hit a 32-yard field goal earlier in the game. Zervos ranks fourth in the NCAA and leads the MAC in field goals per game. | West Division Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Northern Illinois RB Joel Bouagnon Northern Illinois senior running back Joel Bouagnon (Aurora, Ill.) scored five rushing touchdowns, the most by a Huskie since 2005 and tied for the second-most all-time, to power NIU past Bowling Green last Wednesday. Bouagnon ran for 134 yards on 26 carries to average 5.2 yards per rush, and scored on TD runs of 14, 1, 2, 15 and 6 yards. He also caught two passes for 31 yards to total 165 all-purpose yards. Bouagnon also moved into seventh place on the NIU career chart for touchdowns scored with 32. Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Western Michigan WR Corey Davis Western Michigan senior wide receiver Corey Davis (Wheaton, Ill.) turned in one of the best performances in MAC history as he set the single-game Western Michigan receiving record with 12 catches for 272 yards and three touchdowns in No. 17 Western Michigan’s 52-20 win over Ball State on Tuesday. With his two touchdowns, Davis tied Darius Watts for the MAC career record with 47 TDs. This year Davis has 14 receiving TDs, the most in the FBS. His 272 yards are the fourth most by any player in the FBS this season. Defensive Player of the Week: Western Michigan DB Darius Phillips Western Michigan junior defensive back Darius Phillips (Detroit, Mich.) set two Western Michigan records and tied two MAC records with his 75-yard interception return for a touchdown in the No. 17 Broncos’ 52-20 win over Ball State on Tuesday. With his pick-six, Phillips now has three for the season and four for his career. The marks are the most in Western Michigan history and tie him for the MAC records both in a season and career. All three of Phillips’ interception returns have been 70 yards or longer, giving him three of the top 20 returns in the country this season. Special Teams Player of the Week: Toledo P Nick Ellis Toledo senior punter Nick Ellis (Pickerington, Ohio) landed both of his punts inside the 20-yard line in a 48-17 win at Akron last Wednesday. Ellis averaged 43.5 yards per punt, including a long of 56 yards. |
