East Division Offensive Player of the Week: Ohio RB A.J. Ouellette Ohio freshman running back A.J. Ouellette (Covington, Ohio) rushed for 127 yards on 25 carries in a 21-14 loss to Northern Illinois on Nov. 18. Ouellette scored a touchdown and averaged 5.1 yards per carry. He also caught four passes for nine yards and one touchdown. Defensive Player of the Week: Bowling Green LB Gabe Martin Bowling Green senior linebacker Gabe Martin (Grand Blanc, Mich.) recorded a game-high 12 tackles, and tied his career high with 2.5 tackles for loss, in a 27-20 loss at Toledo. Early in the fourth quarter, Martin blocked a Toledo field goal, which allowed the Falcons' offense to tie the game on the very next possession. Martin was also integral in forcing a fumble, as he drove a lineman back into the quarterback, before one of his teammates came and knocked the ball loose for the Falcons to recover. Special Teams Player of the Week: Akron K Robert Stein Akron junior kicker Robert Stein (Cincinnati, Ohio) added three field goals and three PATs in a 30-6 win over UMass on Tuesday, Nov. 18. In a frigid weather and gusty winds, Stein converted field goals from 24, 26, and 31 yards. Stein also kicked off a career-high six times for 295 yards (49.2 avg.). After 11 games, Stein is 12-of-14 in field goals and a perfect 24-of-24 in PATs. He has made 24 consecutive PAT. Stein is the Zips’ leading scorer with 60 points. | West Division Offensive Player of the Week: Toledo RB Kareem Hunt Toledo sophomore running back Kareem Hunt (Willoughby, Ohio) rushed for a career-high 265 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries in a 27-20 victory over Bowling Green on Nov. 19. Hunt had a 91-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, the third-longest run in Toledo history. Hunt now has 1,260 yards in eight games, the 10th-most in Toledo history and the most ever by a sophomore. He ranks third in the nation in rushing yards per game (157.5) and yards per attempt (8.34). Hunt has now hit the century mark in nine-consecutive games dating back to last season. Defensive Player of the Week: Western Michigan DB Donald Celiscar Western Michigan senior defensive back Donald Celiscar (Winterhaven, Fla.) helped shut down the Central Michigan passing attack with six tackles, four pass break ups and his fourth interception of the season in a 32-20 win at Central Michigan. Only two of Central Michigan receiver Titus Davis' five receptions came when matched up against Celiscar. With his five total passes defended on the day he now leads the nation in the category, averaging 1.8 per game. Special Teams Player of the Week: Northern Illinois P Tyler Wedel Northern Illinois senior punter Tyler Wedel (McFarland, Wis.) punted six times for a 42.8-yard average in a 21-14 win at Ohio. Wedel forced Ohio to start inside its 20-yard line three times, and inside its 10 twice. Wedel once again did not have a touchback in the game and has now punted 50 times on the season without putting a ball into the endzone. Wedel had a pair of 50 yard punts in the game, but his day also included a 27-yard punt that was fair caught inside the 20 yard line. |
