Offensive Player of the Week: Ohio RB A.J. Ouellette
Ohio junior running back A.J. Ouellette (Covington, Ohio) racked up 102 yards on 10 carries to lead Ohio to a 42-30 win over Kansas this week. It marked the first 100-plus yard rusher for the season for the Bobcats and it was Ouellette’s first 100-yard rushing game since Nov. 24, 2015 against Northern Illinois. Ouellette averaged 10.2 yards per carry and scored his second touchdown of the season. Ouellette had a long rush of 63-yards, which was the second longest of his career.
Defensive Player of the Week: Miami DB De’Andre Montgomery
Miami junior defensive back De’Andre Montgomery (Hampton, Ga.) had a career-high 10 tackles and one interception as the RedHawks fell late to Cincinnati 21-17. Montgomery added one tackle for loss as the Bearcats were held to just 361 yards of total offense.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Miami P Kyle Kramer
Miami sophomore punter Kyle Kramer (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) had a career night as Miami's punter, recording bests in punts (8), yards (364) and average (45.5) while pinning his opponent inside the 20-yard line four different times.
West Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Toledo QB Logan Woodside
Toledo senior quarterback Logan Woodside (Frankfort, Ky.) threw for 458 yards and six TDs to rally Toledo from 21 points down in a 54-51 win over Tulsa. Woodside completed 22-of-33 passes, averaging almost 21 yards per completion. He threw for TD passes of 60, 26, 81, 15, 49 and 74 yards. Woodside now has 7,636 career passing yards and moved into third place on Toledo’s all-time passing yardage list, passing Gene Swick (1972-75, 7,266 yards). His 458 passing yards are third-most in a single game in Toledo history; he also holds spots number one and five (vs. BYU in2016 and vs. Ohio in 2016, respectively). Woodside’s six touchdown passes are tied for the most in a single game in Toledo history. Bruce Gradkowski achieved that feat twice (2003 vs. Buffalo, 2004 vs. Ball State). That total is tied for the fourth-most in a single game in MAC history. In the second half, Woodside threw for 294 yards, third-most in a half in Toledo history and the most ever in the second half.
Defensive Player of the Week: Northern Illinois LB Jawuan Johnson
Northern Illinois junior linebacker Juwuan Johnson (East St. Louis, Mo.) made the second of two first quarter interception returns for touchdowns Saturday in NIU’s upset win at Nebraska to give the Huskies a 14-0 lead that the Huskies would hold for the entire first half. After the Nebraska quarterback was pressured, Johnson caught his wobbling pass and ran 25 yards untouched for the score for his first career touchdown. His day was far from done, though, as he tallied nine tackles, four solo, with a one-yard tackle for loss, in the game. NIU held Nebraska to just 85 rushing yards on 36 carries in the game; Nebraska converted just six of 19 third downs and were 3 of 5 with only two touchdowns, in the red zone.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Toledo K Jameson Vest
Toledo junior kicker Jameson Vest (Peachtree City, Ga.) had one field attempt vs. Tulsa, but it was a big one. Vest connected on a 33-yard field goal with no time on the clock to beat the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa “iced” Vest with back-to-back timeouts before he drilled his kick through the middle of the uprights. Vest also had five PATs and two touchbacks on kickoffs.
