MAC Announces Weeks 10 & 11 POTW

The Mid-American Conference on Thursday announced its Weeks 10 & 11 Players of the week.
MAC East honorees are: A. J. Ouellette (RB, Ohio), Nick Johnson (DB, Bowling Green) and Josiah Yazdani (K, Ohio).
MAC West honorees are: Jarvion Franklin (RB, Toledo), Anthony Brooks (DB, Northern Illinois), Jeremiah Detmer (K, Toledo).

EAST DIVISION

Offensive Player of the Week:  Ohio RB A.J. Ouellette
Ohio freshman running back A.J. Ouellette (Covington, Ohio) led the Bobcat offense with 155 rushing yards on 29 carries and two touchdowns in a 37-14 win over Buffalo on Nov. 5. Ouellette average 5.3 yards per carry, with his longest rush being 26 yards. Ouellette added two catches for a total of 11 yards, giving him 166 all-purpose yards on the night.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Bowling Green DB Nick Johnson
Bowling Green freshman defensive back Nick Johnson (Canton, Ohio) recorded nine tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups in a 27-10 win at Akron on Tuesday night.  Johnson’s two interceptions bring his season total to four - tied for first in the MAC.

Special Teams Player of the Week:  Ohio K Josiah Yazdani
Ohio junior kicker Josiah Yazdani (Albany, Ohio) was a perfect three-for-three in field goal attempts, connecting on a 19, 28 and 33-yarder to help the Bobcats defeat Buffalo, 37-14, on Wednesday night. He also recorded eight kickoffs for a total of 459 yards, averaging 57.4 yards a kickoff with three touchbacks. Yazdani was also a perfect three-for-three on point-after-attempts. 


 

WEST DIVISION

Offensive Player of the Week:  Western Michigan RB Jarvion Franklin
Western Michigan freshman running back Jarvion Franklin (Tinley Park, Ill.) had 182 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries in a 41-10 win at Miami on Nov. 1.  Franklin maintained his position as the nation's leading scorer after rushing for three touchdowns. Franklin sits just shy of leading the nation in rushing yardage after pushing his season total to 1,330. His first touchdown, a 55-yard run in the first quarter, broke the Western Michigan single-season record for touchdowns in a season. He now has 22 touchdowns, including 10 in Western Michigan's four-game winning streak.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Northern Illinois DB Anthony Brooks
Northern Illinois sophomore defensive back Anthony Brooks (Detroit, Mich.) had four tackles, one pass breakup and a key interception return for a touchdown in a 35-21 win at Ball State on Wednesday night.  With NIU leading 21-14 and Ball State looking to drive the length of the field for the tying score in the fourth quarter, Brooks intercepted Ball State quarterback Jack MIlas and returned his first career interception 21 yards for a Huskie touchdown to give NIU a 28-14 lead. The score was the first for a Huskie defender this season.

Special Teams Player of the Week:  Toledo K Jeremiah Detmer
Toledo senior kicker Jeremiah Detmer (Hilliard, Ohio) converted three field goals and three PATs in a 30-20 win at Kent State on Tuesday night in wet and windy conditions.  Detmer was a perfect 3-of-3 on field-goal attempts and has now made his last 10 attempts (15-18 on the season). Detmer was credited with a 26-yarder and 28-yarder in the first quarter, and a season-long 45-yarder in the third quarter. He was also 3-of-3 on extra points.
