The difference in the ballgame was . . .
The Falcons were held to 32.0 percent (24-of-75) shooting in the contest. However, Bowling Green shot 40.0 percent from deep, making 14-of-35 attempts. BGSU went a strong 17-of-21 (81.0 percent) from the free throw line.
LSU, after making seven triples in the first half, was held to a 0-for-3 mark in the second stanza. The Tigers shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field as a team. Another key factor in the contest was free throw shooting, as LSU attempted 13 more foul shots and made 10 more free throws than the Falcons. LSU went 27-of-34 (79.4 percent) from the line.
BGSU had more steals than LSU (11-3), and had 12 assists compared to nine turnovers. The Tigers had 11 assists and 16 turnovers. The Falcons had 15 offensive boards and 41 total for the game. LSU registered nine offensive boards and 46 total rebounds.
PLAYER NOTES
• Redshirt-freshman guard Justin Turner scored 26 points to lead all scorers. Turner has now scored 20-plus points a total of 28 times in his career. His 26-point night marks his ninth-highest scoring game of his career.
• Turner, who shot 10-of-19 from the field, including a 4-of-7 clip from downtown, also had six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
• With his 20 points, Turner moved up four spots on BGSU's all-time scoring list. Turner now ranks 29th all-time. On the night, Turner surpassed Martin Samarco (2005-07 | 1,151), Spencer Parker (2012-16 | 1,160), Rich Walker (1968-71 | 1,167), and Joe Moore (1987-91 | 1,168). Turner has scored 1,172 points in 71 career games.
• In his return to action, sophomore guard Caleb Fields scored 17 points, and drilled 4-of-7 attempts from downtown. The 17-point game is the second-highest scoring game of Fields' career. Fields career-high came last season versus UT Martin, when he made a BGSU freshman-record six triples in a 24-poimt outburst.
• Senior guard Dylan Frye scored 15 points and drilled two triples, marking the 54th game of his career in which he's converted on multiple three-pointers. Frye also had three rebounds, five assists and only one turnover.
• Junior forward Trey Diggs went 3-of-8 from three-point land to finish with nine points. Diggs also had a career-high five rebounds in 16 minutes of action.
• Going up against five-star center Trendon Watford, sophomore center Tayler Mattos more than held his own. Watford went 4-of-12 from the floor and had 10 rebounds, while Mattos collected 12 rebounds and added four points.
• In his debut as a Falcon, redshirt-freshman center Dylan Swingle played six minutes. He drew three fouls, scored three points and also dished out an assist on a Caleb Fields triple. Swingle received a waiver from the NCAA, and has four years of eligibility for the Falcons.
