TOLEDO, OH -- Any win is a particularly welcome win when a team has lost six straight league games. The Bowling Green Falcons, however, added another level to their pleasure Saturday when they knocked off rival Toledo 88-81 at Savage Arena. It was the first home loss for UT this season.
Daeqwon Plowdon led the . . .
Toledo was riding a five-game win streak and had prevailed in 13 or its last 14 outings. Marreon Jackson posted a game-high 27 points against Bowling Green, and three other starters joined him in double figures. Saetric Millner Jr. netted 15, followed by JT Shumate (14) and Spencer Littleson (11).
While UT got six points from its bench, Bowling Green picked up 29 from its subs and outscored the hosts 22-5 on points off turnovers. The Falcons also capitalized from the free throw line, making 16 of 22 opportunities, while Toledo hit 10 of just 11 chances.
Joining Plowden in double figures for BG were Justin Turner (21), Trey Diggs (17), Kaden Metheny (14) and Josiah Fulcher (10).
The Falcons carried a 41-37 lead to the locker room, but a Rockets run moved UT in front 51-50 after Setric Millner Jr.'s slam at 14:46. Bowling Green quickly responded, however, and built up a 71-55 cushion with 6:24 remaining.
Toledo pulled within five in the final minute but could not catch the Falcons.
"It's obviously a tough loss today," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "I think a big part of it was Bowling Green played really, really well. It was the best I've seen them play this season. We had a good start to the second half, but then we had a stretch where we had some shots that didn't fall and they went on a run. They made some really tough shots."
