OXFORD, OH -- Akron hit 9-of-18 treys and Loren Cristian Jackson tallied 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half as the Zips held off Miami 83-76 Friday at Millett Hall.

Akron (10-3 MAC, 12-4 overall) launched a total of34 treys on the evening, sinking 14 (41.2%). Miami, on the other hand, totaled 14 tries outside the arc, making five.
Overall, UA had three more field goals (30-27), and it was the Zips -- specifically Jackson -- who were dialed in on the target over the final minutes. Miami (5-5 MAC, 8-8 overall) had two goals during the last 6:38, with Isaiah Coleman-Lands hitting the last bucket at 4:34. The RedHawks managed five free throws after that.
Bryan Trimble joined Jackson in double figures, registering 15 points. Four other Akron players had at least eight points.
Miami junior guard Mekhi Lairy nearly matched Jackson's total, hitting 8-of-14 shots from the field while scoing 24 points. Coleman-Lands followed with 12 and James Beck added 10 points.
Akron grabbed an early 12-4 lead and remained in front until Miami tied things at 25-all on a Lairy triple. Delonte Brown's three-ball moved the RedHawks in front, and they owned a 40-37 edge at the break.
Jackson's trey at 16:41 moved UA back in front 46-45 and the two teams battled through 12 lead changes over the next 5:41. After Miami tied the game at 73, Akron pulled away to record its eight win in eight outings.
