The win was highlighted by one of the best free throw shooting performances in school history as UB went 33-of-35 from the charity stripe, hitting 94.3% of their free throws, including all 20 in the second half. The Bulls are the first team in the nation to make at least 90% of their free throws on at least 35 attempts this year and since 2010, only 10 teams have taken at least 35 free throws and hit on 94% of them.
Sophomore David Skogman had the best night of his career as he dropped career highs of 20 points and 15 rebounds. The Wisconsin native became just the second player this season to score at least 20 points, while going perfect from the field (6-6), the three-point line (2-2), and the free throw line (6-6).
Bowling Green led 16-12 seven minutes into the game, which would be its largest lead of the night. From there, the Bulls got a three from freshman Curtis Jones, who had the best game of his young career, cutting the deficit to one. Leading 27-25, UB scored six straight quickly to extend the lead to 33-25 with 7:11 left. UB led by as many as nine in the opening half, but a late run from the Falcons tied it up at 41-41. A pair of free throws from Ronaldo Segu gave Buffalo the 43-41 halftime lead.
UB never trailed in the second half, but it was tight for the first 10 minutes as the Bulls held just a three point lead at 70-67. However, from there another three from Jones ignited a quick 7-0 run as the Bulls took a double-digit advantage at 77-67.
The Falcons would cut it to eight, but a three pointer from Maceo Jack put the game back within double figures. Jack would go on to score his 1,000th career Division I point, spanning his career at George Washington and Buffalo. The Bulls led by as many as 14, before coming away with the 11-point victory.
Jeenathan Williams led the way with 21 points, while Skogman and Segu each finished with 20 points. It was the second time in the last three games that Buffalo has had at least three players score 20 or more points. Skogman had 15 boards, while Segu dished out a game-high seven assists.
Jack had 16 points and five rebounds, while senior Keishawn Brewton finished with six points.
Despite playing just three players off the bench, the Bulls notched 16 bench points, led by a career high 11 points from Jones, who added four boards and two assists. Ty Perry finished with five points.
Even playing shorthanded, the Bulls outrebounded Bowling Green, 38-31. The Falcons came into the game leading the MAC in rebounding, but the 31 boards were a season-low for BG. In addition, the 99 points scored by the Bulls were the most by a team against the Falcons this year.
