Cardinals add two hoop players
The Ball State men’s basketball program has added two players to its roster, signing transfer Jontrell Walker and incoming freshman Zach Hollywood to scholarship papers.
Walker -- who will sit out next season because of NCAA transfer rules -- comes to Ball State from Incarnate Word, a Southland Conference school in San Antonio, Texas. He averaged 13.1 points and 1.9 assists per game over his first two collegiate seasons and was named the 2015 Southland Freshman of the Year by College Hoops Daily.
Hollywood averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game as a senior this year at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School in Bradley, Illinois. He shot 43.5 percent from 3-point range, playing for coach Alex Renchen.

Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk has announced that 6-7, 205-pound guard/forward Tre’Shaun Fletcher (Wilmar, AR) is transferring to the University of Toledo from the University of Colorado. Fletcher will need to sit out the 2016-17 season before playing his final season as a collegian in a Rocket uniform.

More Oats in the offing for Bulls
The University at Buffalo and head men's basketball coach Nate Oats have agreed on a new five-year contract, Director of Athletics Allen Greene announced on Wednesday. The new deal will keep Oats on the UB sidelines through the 2020-21 season.
"Nate's first year at the helm was an overwhelming success. The efforts of he and his staff continue to elevate our program on the national stage," said Greene. "His teams are tenacious, gritty and full of swag.”

Whitford gets BSU contract extension
Ball State has extended the contract of men’s basketball coach James Whitford through the 2020-21 season, director of intercollegiate athletics Mark Sandy announced.
Whitford recently completed his third season at Ball State, leading the program to a 20-win campaign and a postseason appearance for the first time since 2001-02.
“Following two rebuilding years, James and his staff had a great season with the program’s first postseason games in 14 years,” Sandy said. “It is vitally important to have continuity and consistency when building a winning program. This new agreement will send a message to recruits and parents that we are looking forward to a long and successful association with coach Whitford.”
