A December incident has led to the January arrest of an Akron basketball player, according to Ohio.com. Khadim Gueye, a 7-foot, 245-pound transfer into the UA program is charged with first-degree assault.
The website cited a police report accusing Gueye of repeatedly punching teammate Mark Kostelac multiple times -- “unprovoked while the victim was not looking.”
Kostelac, 6-11, 250 pounds, was knocked unconscious and could require reconstructive and/or oral surgery.

Reed lands Freshman All-American honor
Western Michigan freshman wide receiver Jayden Reed was recently named to the 18th annual Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America Team.
Reed caught 56 passes for 797 yards and eight touchdowns this season. He also had a 93-yard punt return for a touchdown. He recorded four 100-yard receiving games and ranked in the top 10 in the MAC in overall receiving yards (797), receiving yards per game (61.3), receptions per game (4.3) and receiving touchdowns (8).

Solich recognized with Osborne Award
Ohio football head coach Frank Solich will receive the Tom Osborne Legacy Award this evening at the Werner Award Dinner, which will take place at the Downtown DoubleTree Hotel in Omaha.
The Tom Osborne Legacy Award is established to recognize an individual who is a "Winner On and Off the Field". A national search is conducted and candidates are selected by the Outland Trophy Tom Osborne Legacy Award Committee.
Selection criteria for the Tom Osborne Legacy Award includes:
• Candidate predominantly played, coached and/ or made extraordinary contributions to the interior line of college football; and/or made contributions to the Outland Trophy.
• Candidate exhibited the characteristics of integrity, sportsmanship and fair play associated with Tom Osborne.
• Candidate continues to demonstrate a record of leadership in the community and continues to hold a record of good citizenship within and beyond the athletic field that is consistent with one of the award sponsors, Rotary Club of Omaha's primary motto, "Service Above Self".
Solich is set to become the fifth recipient of the Tom Osborne Legacy Award, joining past winners Milt Tenopir, Jim Ridlon, Barry Switzer and Bobby Bowden.
Solich, who was named the 2019 president of the American Football Coaches Association on Monday (Jan. 7), just wrapped up his 14th season as the head coach at Ohio.
Broncos add future Big 10 games
The Western Michigan Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced contracts to play future road football games against Michigan, Iowa and Illinois.
The Broncos also have three previously scheduled games on the books with Michigan State, as Western Michigan is slated to play four Big Ten opponents in a total of six games over the next seven years.
In the newest agreements, Western Michigan will play Michigan on Sept. 4, 2021, Iowa on Sept. 2, 2023 and Illinois on Sept. 20, 2025. WMU faces Michigan State in 2019, 2022 and 2025, with all three of those games in East Lansing. The Broncos will receive guaranteed payouts for all six of its upcoming games against Big Ten opponents.
