Cleveland, Ohio -- After passage of legislation during the NCAA Convention in Washington, D.C., the Mid-American Conference’s Council of Presidents has reaffirmed its support of the NCAA’s autonomous legislation that allows for cost of attendance to be included in a grant-in-aid.
The Mid-American Conference began discussions last spring on the issue of redefining an athletics grant-in-aid to include a cost of attendance component. Those discussions led to a joint meeting of the Conference’s Presidents and Directors of Athletics in October 2014, where MAC’s Council of Presidents ultimately voted to support such legislation.
“I want to reiterate the position that was developed by our Council of Presidents last fall,” said MAC Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher. “Our stance remains the same. The Mid-American Conference is dedicated to supporting our student-athletes in the classroom, the community and on the playing field, with the ultimate goal of graduating and having a great collegiate experience. We will support the legislation that redefines an athletics grant-in-aid to include the cost of attendance.”
The Mid-American Conference has 12 full-time members and offers championships in 23 sports.
