OVERALL: The Zips got the preseason media pick to win the Eastern Division. But that supposed on the availability of Demetrius Treadwell, the pre-season MAC Player of the Year (along with Toledo’s Julius Brown). Long story made short – Treadwell is no longer with the team. After a season-opening home win over Maryland Baltimore County, Treadwell was indefinitely suspended for a campus incident….UA went 2-1 at the Charleston Classic in South Carolina, defeating Southern California and South Carolina while losing to Miami (FLA)….After a tough loss at Penn State, the Zips returned home picking up wins over Bryant, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Western Illinois before losing in the final moments to Middle Tennessee (their lone home loss of the season so far)…After a loss at North Dakota State, they finished the non-conference schedule with home wins over Bluffton, Marshall, and Coppin State.

DISAPPOINTMENTS: The loss of Treadwell definitely qualifies as a disappointment since UA lost 15.2 points and 8.6 rebounds a game…In the non-conference schedule during the Keith Dambroy years, games are like a basketball laboratory. He looks for the right combinations to use when MAC play begins in January. This season, Dambrot and his coaching staff have a very young team and have struggled to find consistency. There were high and lows from youngsters like freshman Antino Jackson, B.J. Gladden, as well as from veterans like Jake Kretzer and Reggie McAdams as they all look to see where their roles are on this team.
HIGH MARK: The wins over Southern California and South Carolina in November marked the first time in school history the Zips own two wins over ‘Power Five’ conference (PAC-12 and SEC respectively)
LOWMARK: The two consecutive losses in December… Against Middle Tennessee, Akron had the ball for the final possession and failed to get a shot off as time expired, losing to the Blue Raiders by one points 62-61. . . Another low was at NDSU, where they scored just 46 points in a defensive battle with the Bison.
NOTEBOOK: The program lost one of its biggest pieces when Director of Basketball Operations Dan Peters lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on October 27th…The University announced in December that Rhodes Arena will undergo a renovation process in the seating bowl…The win over Marshall on December 30 was the 350th at UA for head coach Keith Dambrot -- second all-time at the school…Pat Forsythe collected his first career double-double in the win over the Thundering Herd (13pts-10reb)…Zips have had at least eight or more three pointers in 10 games so far this season and four times they have 10 or more from beyond the arc…According to Forbes Magazine, Keith Dambrot is the 19th best coach in College Basketball for the money in the 2013-14 season…Zips forced 28 turnovers in their win over Bluffton -- the most in a game since November, 2010 vs Millikin…When Noah Robotham was in the lineup for the season opener against UMBC, he was the first true freshman to start a season opener since Jake Kretzer and Carmelo Betancourt in November, 2012 at Coastal Carolina
