9/16/2017

The Buffalo Bulls enter Week Three still seeking their first 2017 victory. Both UB losses came on the road, so the Bulls will be anxious to start their home slate with a win over Colgate.
The FCS-level Raiders . . .

. . . are 1-1 after last week’s 20-14 win over Cal Poly. The Raiders were up 20-0 through three quarters, but Cal Poly pulled within six by midway through the final stanza.
Buffalo wasn’t so lucky. The Bulls were up 17-7 after three quarters, but Army scored on the first play of the final period and added a winning touchdown with 4:53 remaining for the final 21-17 decision.

COLGATE RAIDERS (1-1)
● The Raiders are an FCS team playing in the Patriot League.
● Colgate owns an 8-7 all-time meeting advantage. The most recent match-up was in 2003 when the Raiders posted a 38-15 triumph.
● Colgate fell out of the FCS Coaches Poll despite taking ninth-ranked Richmond to the wire in a 20-17 loss.
● Carmine Scarfone made his second straight start last week at Richmond, but Grant Brenneman came on to begin the third offensive series and went the rest of the way. Brenneman led the Raiders with 67 rushing yards on 15 attempts. He also completed 10 of 21 passes for 99 yards and a TD.
● Colgate’s backfield trio of James Holland Jr., Alex Mathews and Malik Twyman combined for 22 rushing attempts and 113 yards against Richmond.
● T.J. Holl leads the Patriot League and ranks second nationally in tackles per game (12.5). He had a career-high 16 stops against Cal-Poly.
● The Patriots were conference champs in 2015 and won two NCAA playoff games on the road. They were national runner-up in 2003.

BUFFALO BULLS (0-2)
● The Bulls have been outscored 38-24. All the damage has come in either the first quarter (21 points) or third quarter (17 points).

● Buffalo has allowed 245.5 rushing yards per game by opponents but is averaging just 85 ypg through its own ground attack. Jackson is supplying more than half of that with 46.0 rushing yards per contest.
● No Buffalo receiver has more than two catches,  but eight players have two.
● Adam Mitcheson is 1 of 3 on field goals, with a long of 21 so far.
● Junior Khalil Hodge leads the Bulls defense with 31 tackles. Jarrett Franklin (23) and Tim Roberts (17) round out the top three.
