MRO PREVIEW: Kent State at Ohio

The Kent State Golden Flashes ended a four-game losing streak last Saturday, defeating Miami 17-14. KSU came back from a 14-3 deficit, picking up its first Mid-American Conference victory.
On the other side of the state, the Ohio Bobcats defeated Bowling Green 48-30 for OU's second MAC road victory of the season.
Saturday’s game is the 70th lifetime meeting between . . . 

. . . the two schools, with the Bobcats holding  a 42-25-2 advantage. Ohio has  won the last three games in the series, including last season’s 14-10 victory at Dix Stadium. It is the 36th lifetime meeting in Athens with the 'Cats holding 20-14-1 edge. KSU’s last win at Peden Stadium was in 2013,  44-13

OHIO BOBCATS  (5-2, 2-1 MAC)

>>> After being surprised by Central Michigan at home, the Bobcats bounced back last Saturday by defeating Bowling Green 48-30 in a wild affair in which there was 861 yards of total offense

>>>  Ohio is averaging 39.7 points and 414.7 yards offensively after seven games.  Leading the way is quarterback Nathan Rourke. The sophomore from Canada has completed 56.7 percent of his passes (87-of-157) for 1,078 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. In addition, he has rushed for 440 yards and 12 scores, which leads the MAC.

>>> The running game is spearheaded by junior A. J. Ouellette, who has rushed for 656 yards and five touchdowns. Senior WR Brendan Cope leads the receivers with 26 catches for 347 yards and a pair of scores, while the offensive line has allowed 10 sacks.

>>> The Green and White defense has allowed an average of 28.6 points and 393.6 yards. The unit has collected 17 sacks and six interceptions

>>> The Bobcats defense is led by senior MLB Quentin Poling with 63 total tackles (28 solo). Junior LB Evan Croutch has 2.5 sacks, while senior CB Bradd Ellis and fellow senior LB Chad Moore each have two interceptions 
KENT STATE GOLDEN FLASHES (2-5, 1-2 MAC)
>>> The Flashes picked up their first MAC win of the season last Saturday, defeating Miami 17-14 on homecoming at Dix Stadium. That ended a four-game losing streak.

>> Kent State picked off two Miami passes but did not have a turnover. Elvis Hines and Jamal Parker recorded the picks. 

>>> Junior Shane Hynes made one of three field goals against MU. He is 6 of 10 on the year.

>>> George Bollas’ 84 -yard pass to Mike Carrigan late in the third quarter proved to be the winning score as the Flashes came back from a 14-3 halftime deficit.

>>> Bollas entered the game in the second half, completing 9 of 14 for 154 yards and a pair of TDs in his two quarters of action. One week earlier against NIU, Bollas completed just 4 of 13 for 14 yards and also threw two interceptions.  

>>> The KSU defense had two more interceptions in the win over Miami and now total 10 on the season. That is fifth in the Football Bowl Subdivision

>>> Manny Lawrence-Burke led KSU with 11 tackles against MU.

>>> Derek Adams is averaging 45.2 yards per punt 14th in the FBS.

>>> Kent State is last among MAC teams in scoring, averaging 11.p ppg. The Clashes are 10th in scoring defense (30-7 ppg). 

>>> KSU is ninth (MAC) in rushing defense. That unit will be tested by an Ohio offense that is second in rushing (230.1  ypg)
