The Kent State Golden Flashes saw their record fall to 0-5 last Saturday, marking their worst start to a season since 1998 as they fell to the Minutemen of Massachusetts. The home team squandered a 10-7 second quarter lead as UMass scored 33 of the last 40 points to register its first win of the season.

The Blue and Gold complete their two game homestand this week with a homecoming matchup against the Black Knights of Army and its triple option offense

KENT STATE GOLDEN FLASHES (0-6, 0-3 MAC)

LAST TIME OUT:
October 11th at home to Massachusetts -- a 40-17 loss. The Flashes opened a 10-7 lead early in the second quarter thanks to a 41-yard Anthony Melchiori field goal and a 43-yard touchdown run by Anthony Meray, the longest by a KSU runner so far this season.
From that point on it was all Minutemen as they scored 33 points the rest of the way. Seventeen points came in the second quarter as the visitors took the lead for good.
UMass had 400 yards of total offense after the first quarter and scored in every way-- with its offense, the special teams (two field goals) and the defense (returned a Colin Reardon pass back for a touchdeown late in the fourth quarter).
Reardon led KSU in both rushing (gaining 53 yards on just three carries) and in passing as he completed 22-of-41 through the air for 191 yards and a touchdown. TE Casey Pearce led the reecievers with six catches for 57 yards. The defense was led by Jordan Italiano, who had 10 total tackles (seven solo)

ON THE YEAR:
KSU offensively is averaging 11.8 points and 274.3 yards per game…QB Colin Reardon is the leader of the offense and he has completed 54.6 percent of his passes (118/216) for 1,227 yards with six touchdowns and eight interceptions…Sophomore RB Nick Holley leads the ground game with 220 yards on 68 carries, while senior WR Chris Humphrey leads the receivers with 24 catches for 270 yards (KSU has five players with 10 or more receptions).
Defensively, the Flashes are allowing 34.7 points and 465.5 yards per game…The 40 points allowed to UMass was the most at home so far this season and the third time they have allowed 40 or more points in 2014…Sophomore DB Nate Holley leads the MAC with 80 total tackles (50 solo) with a forced fumble, two blocked kicks and a tackle for loss…The special teams are led by Anthony Melchiori who does both the punting  (averaging 44.6 yards per kick) and place kicking (5/10 on field goals and a perfect 6 of 6 on PATs)

OVERVIEW:
Kent State is 0-6 for the first time since 1998 (0-3 at home)… It opened the 2014 campaign at home coming back from a 14-7 deficit to tie Ohio 14-14 with 3:34 remaining. Only to see the Bobcats hit a 44-yard field goal on the final play of the game and literally take the game away 17-14…That game has been the closest the Flashes have come to a victory so far this season…After their meeting with Army, they finish up with trips to Miami and Buffalo then  home games against Toledo and arch-rival Akron

NOTES & QUOTES:
The Kent State offense for the second consecutive week had a season best in both total yards (341) and rushing yards (150)…The offensive line did not allow a sack for the first time this season…QB Colin Reardon moved into a tie for sixth place on the all-time completions list (340) along with being eighth in passing yards (3,184) and career touchdown throws (18)…Nate Holley ranks third in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 13.5 total tackles per game and second in solo stops (8.3)…In its history, KSU is 3-8 lifetime against the service academies

THE SERIES:
The game is the fourth lifetime between the two schools with KSU holding a 2-1 edge thanks to a 31-17 victory in 2012 at Michie Stadium…This is the second meeting at Dix Stadium; the first was in 2010 when the Black Knights scored a 45-28 victory

ARMY BLACK KNIGHTS (2-4)

LAST TIME OUT:
October 11th at home, losing to Rice 41-21. The Owls from Conference USA scored 31 of their 41 points in the second and third quarters combined, which was too much for the Cadets to handle. QB Driphu Jackson led the visitors from Houston with three touchdown passes while Jowan Davis had 77 yards rushing.
For Army, QB Angel Santiago rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown while completing 5-of-11 passes for just 37 yards along with a score. RB Larry Dixon had 86 yards rushing and score. Defensively, LB Steven Riccardi had 10 total tackles (nine solo) with three tackles for losses.

He came from Georgia Southern. During his tenure there, the Eagles went to the Division-IAA (now Football College Subdivision) three times, winning two Southern Conference Championships. They also led the transition of GSU into the FBS (Sun Belt Conference)..They opened the season with a home win over Buffalo (Both of their wins have come against the MAC -- the other was over Ball State)…Their losses have come at nationally ranked Stanford, at Wake Forest and Yale…After the tilt with KSU, Army has home games against Air Force, Connecticut (at Yankee Stadium) and Fordham with road games at Western Kentucky and Navy (in Baltimore).

NOTES & QUOTES:
QB Angel Santiago’s 106 yards rushing against Rice was the third game this season he has hit the century mark on the ground…RB Larry Dixon’s touchdown against the Owls was the 22nd of his career, tied for ninth on the all-time list…Senior LB Stephern Riccardi 10 total tackles  was a career high…There are 36 states represented on the 2014 Army squad…After Jeff Monken was installed as the head coach, he and Superintendent of West Point, Lt.
