It’s a little early to be using the word “destiny” for the 2016 Central Michigan Chippewas, but with a win Saturday at Virginia, CMU will enter MAC play on the heels of a non-conference play sweep.
Never mind that Week Five will bring one of the biggest matchups of the MAC season (Western Michigan at Central Michigan). First things first, and that is Virginia on the road.

VIRGINIA (0-3, 0-0 ACC)
► Junior quarterback Kurt Benkert has completed 69 of 115 passing attempts (60.0%) with five TDs and four interceptions. Through three games, he has been sacked 10 times.
► Four receivers have reached double-figure receptions. Keeon Johnson leads the bunch with 17 catches for 159 yards and a pair of TDs. Doni Dowling owns 11 receptions, for 158 yards and a TD, while Olamide Zaccheaushas comes in with 14 grabs for 157 yards and a TD.
► Senior Albert Reid (5-9, 215) lead the Cavaliers rushing attack with 36 carries for 227 yards (6.3 ypc) and two touchdowns. Classmate Taquan Mizzell added 121 yards on 28 trips with one score. He also has 12 receptions for 75 yards.
Mizzell owns receptions in 36 straight games, which is the third longest in the nation.
► Linebacker Micah Kiser leads the way on defense with 34 tackles, 3.0 TFL and 2.5 sacks. DB Juan Thornhils has 15 stops and one interception.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN (3-0, 0-0 MAC)
► Quarterback Cooper Rush leads the MAC in passing yardage (316.7 ypg). He has completed 66 of 101 attempts (65.3%) with 11 TDs and three interceptions. Rush earned MAC West Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance last week against UNLV.
► Four Chips have at least 10 catches: Jesse Kroll (12/205 yards, 1 TD), Mark Chapman (13/185 yards, 2 TDs), Corey Willis (11/182 yards, 4 TDs), Tyler Conklin (10/151 yards, 2 TDs).
► Devon Spalding tops CMU rushers with 31 carries for 166 yards (5.4 ypc) and a TD. Jonathan Ward is averaging 6.1 ypc with 22 trips for 135 yards and a touchdown. Jahray Hayes owns 99 yards and three touchdowns off 25 rushes.
► Linebacker Nathan Rickets has totaled 18 tackles, three TFL and one interception. DL Joe Ostman has 4 TFL and 2.0 sacks among his 12 stops.
