Series: Bowling Green leads 40-28-2
>> The Bobcats have been trying to give Frank Solich his 111th win as Ohio head coach. That would make him the single winningest MAC football coach in history. A couple of close losses over the last two weeks, however, have not only delayed the seemingly inevitable, they have left Ohio scrambling to reach bowl eligibility.
It’s a strange position for the team that got the media and coaches preseason nod to win a MAC championship. At 4-6 with two games left, there is no more wiggle room.
Ohio won last year’s meeting in Athens handily.
The ‘Cats are trying to bounce back from last week’s 37-34 overtime loss to MAC West leader Western Michigan. QuarterbackNathan Rourke completed 20-of-29 attempts for 225 yards and two TDs.He also ran for another 93 yards on 13 attempts. Meanwhile, Western Michigan opened up its own passing game, with Jon Wassink completingleting 23-of-34 for 322 yards and three scores.
ABOUT BOWLING GREEN
After beating up on Akron in its previous outing. Bowling Green fell to Miami, 44-3, last week.
The Falcons stayed with MU early, but a pick-six by the RedHawks and a couple missed field goal tries undermined BG scoring. Miami broke loose with a series of big plays in the second period to take control.
The RedHawks defense also gave BG problems, limiting QB Grant Loy to 11 completions in 27 attempts, good for 90 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. Bryson Denley, however, carried 14 times for 105 yards as BG gained 185 yards on the ground.

Last week marked a pretty complete reversal of fortunes for EMU, which bounced back from a 43-14 loss against Buffalo with a 42-14 victory over winless Akron.
The Eagles amassed 498 yards of total offense, using the ground game for six scores. Running back Shaq Vann was busy in cold and windy conditions, carrying 28 times for 142 yards with four TDs. Quarterback Mike Glass II still managed to complete 20-of-25 tosses for 246 yards..
While Eastern is pretty much out of the West race, it is still just one win away from bowl eligibility.
ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The Huskies dodged MAC West elimination last week with a 31-28 win over Toledo.
Up 28-7 heading into the fourth quarter, NIU saw UT rally to tie the game at 28-all with 5:07 to play. John Richardson’s 25-yard field goal in the final minute provided the winning margin for Northern, which is in a must-win mode. The Huskies have two games to get two wins to reach bowl eligibility. They also need to win out to have any chance at the MAC West crown.
Quarterback Ross Bowers completed 15-of-26 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown against Toledo. RB Tre Harbison had another big day, registering season highs in carries (32) and yards (168). He also chipped in one TD.
