
KALAMAZOO, MI – Toledo continued its road success Saturday with a convincing 97-87 Mid-American Conference victory over Western Michigan in University Arena. The victory extended the Rockets’ conference road winning streak to five games, marking their longest unbeaten stretch in league play since the 1999-2000 campaign.
Senior guard Julius Brown paced a balanced UT attack with 19 points and six assists as all five Rocket starters scored in double digits. Also notching double-digits in the scoring column were senior forward J.D. Weatherspoon (17 pts.), senior guard Justin Drummond (16 pts., team-high six boards), junior center Nathan Boothe (15 pts.) and sophomore guard Jonathan Williams (12 pts.).
Freshman guard Thomas Wilder paced the Broncos (16-11, 7-7 MAC) with a career-high 34 points, while senior guard David Brown tallied 29 points.

The Rockets controlled the boards by a 31-23 margin and held a 44-28 advantage in the paint.
Toledo led for virtually the entire contest, with the Broncos’ only lead coming after a Brown trey put the hosts up, 3-2, in the game’s first minute. The Rockets took their largest lead of the opening stanza after an 8-2 spurt put UT in front, 23-16, with 9:26 remaining before halftime.
Weatherspoon gave the Rockets a 42-38 halftime lead with a slam after Brown had brought the Broncos within two points.
The Rockets began to assert control early in the second stanza, and Brown’s baseline jumper put UT up 52-43, forcing WMU to take timeout with 13:55 to play.
The Broncos responded with back-to-back baskets to climb within five, but sophomore guard Jordan Lauf’s layup and freshman guard Stuckey Mosley’s trey gave UT its first double-digit lead, 57-47, with 11:41 remaining.
UT’s lead did not drop below eight points the remainder of the contest as the Rockets knocked down 19 straight free throws until the final minute.
