Strong second half sends OU past Seahawks

ATHENS -- After trailing throughout the first half, the Ohio Bobcats rallied for a 72-53 victory over the University of North Carolina – Wilmington Tuesday at the Convocation Center.

Senior forward Maurice Ndour powered the comeback effort with his fifth double-double in 11 games. He scored 23 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and registered four blocks as Ohio moved within a game of .500 at 5-6. UNCW lost its third in a row, dropping it to an identical 5-6 mark.

Joining Ndour in double figures for OU were Javarez Willis (12), Mike Laster (11) and Antonio Campbell (11).

Addison Sprull led the Seahawks with 16 markers, while Craig Ponder added 13. C.J. Gettys scored six points and led UNCW with 11 rebounds.

The Seahawks started the game with a 10-2 run and led 10-8 with 15:29 left in the half.  UNCW led by as much as seven in first period, including with 2:19 remaining. 

Ohio chipped away to close its deficit to 34-30 at the break. It then hit 3 of 4 coming out of the break, grabbing a 37-34 lead on a Campbell with three.

A 16-0 Bobcat run put the hosts in control and Ohio’s defense stepped up in the final stanza. UNCW connected on just 17.1 percent from the field after intermission.
